Well then by your logic, why isn’t Cruz racing to do just that, so he could show Trump to be wrong?

Cruz may be a hell of a lawyer, but he’s making rookie mistakes left and right. Book-smart isn’t the only kind of smart...
Cruz doesn't have to prove he is eligible. The burden of proof fall on the one who files a complaint and Trump knows that there is no there there. As for the "New-York" values thing, it really resonates with middle America in that Trump is on record confirming this. Bref, Cruz is setting him up to trip up and Trump is walking right into it. You and I know what "New York values" are and so does the rest of America. Trump is good and I would support him but temperment is what is being measured here and Cruz's got his number. IMHO.
