“More and more I am thinking the Founders had the right idea when they restricted the people who could run for President to citizens born on US Soil to parents, both of whom had allegiance to no other sovereignty.”

So Trump can be president, but his own kids can’t?

If their mother was not an American citizen when they were born, this interpretation would exclude them from running for President. However, the original interpretation at the time the Constitution was written only requires the father to be a citizen.

Anyway, the fact that this can be discussed to such length as it has indicates that the question of the definition of “natural born citizen” is not settled law. It needs to be settled, especially if Cruz or Rubio get the nomination for either President or Vice President. If Donald Trump wins, and picks someone other than either one of them as his VP, then we can worry about it for another day.
