See also: Calling BS on the official story of the Iranian capture of two US riverine boats I have separately heard from two experts, both high ranking Marines, one on active duty and the other working in DC at a foundation, the following.
⨠When I pressed them on the Fars News Service statement from Iran that the 10 captured on the two US vessels were all Marines, they countered: No, they are part of a Rivierine Squadron based in San Diego. Further they are support crews for SEAL missions from the US Navy and highly trained. The Iranians probably mistook âRiverineâ for âMarineâ in doing the story. So that explains several things. Why the captured sailors were so much more fit than the average sailor these days, and how a woman could be among them. While not special ops personnel directly engaged, they have to be extraordinarily fit and well-trained, as indeed these sailors appear to be. It also raises the question as to whether they had been on a...(Read Full Post)

See #12. These RS sailors are about the least covert of anybody in the USN.
They guard river inlets, pulling the duty that the USCG pulled until the USCG pulled out. That was the genesis of RS.
I know that there are several folks here that write for AT. This should make them reconsider. Also, the whole special ops mission theory requires a belief that Obama would dare to cause mischief with his buddies in Iran. His history shows otherwise.
The closest to the true sound of a Dillon M-134 at work ever put on video. That was a live fire exercise.
I don’t care who writes for them, but after several rejections, it pissed me off no-end to see Lifson use my content under his byline without contacting me first.
SWCC has been in several “unreported” dust-ups with the same Iranian forces in the past, shots were fired, and nobody surrendered.
RS is not SWCC. RS are = to mall security guards, compared to SWCCs are real deal warriors, part of Naval Special Warfare.
SWCCs would have cut loose with those miniguns, ROE be damned, and chewed those Iranian boats to fiberglass dust.
Travis, many times I have said thank you for your service and for sharing your real world knowledge with us.
This is another prime example of the value you bring to FR.
Keep up the great work. You are one of FR’s true treasures.
Dave
Yep. I wonder what VJ’s rank is in the Iranian secret intelligence service?
General, at least.
Thanks. I think I burned my bridges at AT pretty finally today.
Not that Lifson would have ever bylined me, anyway.
I read the comments on A T and here but am still not gettin your point as to what happened in the Iranian waters
thx
Which AT article, yesterday’s or todays?
Did you see the map meme I just posted?
They had their passports because they were being transferred from one nation to another.
Riverine Squadrons are the mall security guards of the small boat world. They do the USCG job, and were invented when the USCG left the Persian Gulf.

See #12, and the map meme. They were bushwhacked en route by the Iranians who knew the minute they left port, and were lying in wait, understanding their ROE would turn a Mexican Standoff into an American Surrender.
Sometimes, we need to burn bridges that we no longer need nor use. Just what we are aware of AT re this bs, that bridge needed to be napalmed.
Director of evil USA ministry wing.
Yeah. Plus Huma Abedin and many others at other levels, including Muslim convert John Brennan.
Posted 97th up in the commbox.
I read it all,now if I am understandin your point, you say there was no nefarious activity,
The only nefarious activity was the Iranian RGs bushwhacking some “mall guard” RS sailors on a routine coastal transit.
They knew when they left port, they knew where they were going, they knew the RS ROE would turn a Mexican Standoff into an American Surrender.
And they as hell knew all about the Riverine Squadron, its boats, crews, SOPs etc. They have competent spies in every port in the PG. They are not going to just randomly and accidentally plan and execute an ambush on these hapless mall guard sailors on a routine transit. Make no mistake, this was an ambush. Well conceived, perfectly executed.
The Thinker piece today is a total joke on many levels. The “experts” quoted said that the Iranians probably mistook “Rivierine” (sic) for Marine. [Slapping head with both hands].
Literally, the “experts” cited, and the author, “don’t know SWCC from Shinola.”
So Iran slapped our Mall Security cop
just because they could,i.e. just eff’n with us ?
Indeed, it is strange and stupid. Why does not American Thinker not simply give credit to the person who wrote the ideas (i.e.. yourself)?
It actually strengthens an author’s position when they show an argument is a “collective” effort
bttt
I respect your opinions and posts. What is your theory of how they could have gotten so far off course. It is just very strange. Any crew member with a cell phone could determine exactly where they were, even if the GPS units on both craft had failed. Something just “aint” right.
I am a pilot and navigation is not that hard, particularly with all the modern devices we have now. Even if all navigation aids failed on both craft and no one had a cell phone the solution would be easy. Turn South West using your magnetic compass. As soon as you pick up the coastline follow it to Bahrain.
