Cruz Blasts Trump as a Fake Conservative
Texas Tribune ^ | Jan. 16, 2016 | Patrick Svitek

FORT MILL, S.C. — Ted Cruz, long reluctant to directly criticize Donald Trump, threw caution to the wind Saturday as he ripped his Republican presidential opponent as a fake conservative.

"Donald’s record does not match what he says as a candidate," told reporters before a national security forum here at a church, delivering an assessment of the onetime ally in the race that would have been unthinkable as recently as last week. "I recognize what Donald says on the campaign trail today is fairly conservative, but voters are discerning."

Cruz went on to respond to a serious of critical tweets earlier Saturday morning from Trump by questioning his judgment and temperament to be president. The senator suggested Trump's tweets were caused by a new poll that show him beating the survey-obsessed billionaire in a head-to-head match-up.

"That has got to drive him nuts, and I imagine it sent him out of bed this morning tweeting and tweeting and tweeting," Cruz said. "I think in terms of a commander in chief, we ought to have someone who isn’t springing out of bed to tweet in a frantic response to the latest polls."

"I think the American people is looking for a commander in chief who is stable and steady and a calm hand to keep this country safe," Cruz added.

Cruz also wondered aloud why Trump had reacted angrily to comments Cruz made a day earlier blasting the policies of New York Democrats. The two candidates have been tangled over Cruz's use of the phrase "New York values."

“It does raise the question of, 'OK, if you are offended at my pointing out how much the failed policies of Hillary Clinton and Andrew Cuomo and Bill de Blasio have hurt New Yorkers, then which of those policies do you agree with?" Cruz said. "Given the fact that for much of his life, Donald was financially supporting those politicians, writing checks to Hillary Clinton, writing checks to Andrew Cuomo, it’s a fair inference that he supports their policies."

Cruz added he was especially surprised that Trump would object to the idea of "New York values" because "he's the one who laid out this analysis" in a 1999 TV interview. In the interview with Tim Russert, Trump repeatedly attributed his liberal stands on some issues to the fact he is from the solidly Democratic Empire State.

Cruz continued to sketch a number of other contrasts with Trump, bringing up gun and property rights when pressed to detail policy differences with the billionaire. Asked to say where he differs with Trump on national security, Cruz flatly replied, "To be honest, I don't know what Trump's position is."

Cruz's remarks to reporters in Fort Mill represented the sharpest escalation yet in his rhetoric against Trump after months of refusing to attack the billionaire. Asked why he was now raising the Tim Russert interview, for example, Cruz suggested it all began with Trump's questioning of his eligibility to be president due to his Canadian birth.

“Well, it came up initially in response to Donald playing 'Born in the USA' in his rallies," Cruz said. "I made a quip that perhaps he ought to play 'New York, New York,' and Donald got very upset with that."

Cruz and Trump were set to cross paths later Saturday in Myrtle Beach, where they are both set to speak in the afternoon at a tea party convention.

You will have lost your chance to elect someone who would actually take on the status quo. This is our opportunity to elect a conservative champion in Senator Cruz who has fought for all conservatives: Social Conservatives, Fiscal Conservatives, and National Defense Conservatives. Instead, many people are following Trump right back into four more years of the status quo.

Cruz is desperate. He would never have started in on all the NY Liberal stuff with his Goldman & TPA baggage unless he really had to.

I suspect Iowa will stay close but it’s clear national sentiment has shifted strongly to Trump.

God can use a smoke as an example of a blessing and let’s be grateful that He did. It is one of those blessings that is possible to vastly overdo, of course, but so is food as I can ruefully testify about my own lack of won’t power sometimes. (Personally I don’t smoke; my dad had immense self control and would only do one or two a week, socially.)

I wonder if a lot of atheists are not dug in so deep that they would not yield to a credible manifestation of the grace of God. And a big problem here is Christians being satisfied with the attitudes held in luke warm churches. Their attitudes should look like they are either praying to or praising God all the time, even if they get under your skin sometimes doing so.

Being the solicitor general doesn’t mean you are an expert in the minutia of elections law. Sorry, but your argument is ludicrous. In fact, if he was relying on his own legal knowledge and tried to save money by not hiring a campaign law expert than I am not surprised that a clerical error was made.

Trump support banning muslim immigration, he was endorsed by Geert Wilder the most important pro israel - anti muslim politician in Europe

Wilders on Isreal

“Israel is the West’s first line of defence” against what he perceives to be a threat posed by Islam”

“The end of Israel would not mean the end of our problems with Islam, but only the beginning. It would mean the start of the final battle for world domination. If they can get Israel, they can get everything. “

“If the Jews are denied the right to live in freedom and peace, soon we will all be denied this right. If the light of Israel is extinguished, we will all face darkness. If Israel falls, the West falls”

This man has endorsed Trump

Donald Trump’s theme song : New York New York.

At least Ted Cruz helped old DON lock up the D.N.C nomination in the state of New York.

Hey Trump supporters, you and Trump own that lable now, New York Values, where the rest of America thinks it stinks.

The rest of America can tell New York just where they can shove that BIG APPLE.

This is how Cruz will bury Trump. I thought Cruz had messed up with the New York values exchange in the debate. However, I retract that now. The spotlight that Cruz is going to shine on Trumps liberal record now will unmask him. Especially as Cruz airs the video of Trump talking about his socially liberal pro choice and pro gay rights New York Values.

How do you guys figure Cruz could get anywhere near enough votes to beat the Democrats...Cruz is too far right for most Republicans to vote for him...

Trump has a forceful face and this has attracted a lot of people. Forcefulness can be used to good or ill.

You make the case that his ten of millions in PAC funds came from small donors.

You’ve already thrown in the towel because it’s well known that Ted has big donors to satisfy.

Some say Ted is a Fake American, not me, but Cruz really stepped in it with the hemming and hawing over his Canadian birth certificate and the alleged cover up of his New York bank loans from Sachs and Citi. Mr. Trump is an open book. Cruz not so much.

-- Yes Ted has problems for sure. If you or I forgot to file our campaign loans properly it might be because we are dummies but for the form Solicitor General of TX to "forget" is a litte unbelievable. --

I'm thinking an error like is easier to forgive and forget, compared with running for president while knowing you are constitutionally unqualified, intending to bluff your way through with the help of the host of corrupt party hacks, media whores, judges and politicians that are running plantation america. THAT is hard to forgive and forget.

New Yorkers like myself are Americans. Now is not the time do divide, it’s the time to unite.

The tactics of division are those of Obama. We’ve had 8 years of it and I am TIRED of it.

America first.

Cruz was not careful. You don’t just beat on people without offering a way forward. Better to offer some generic sense of hope, which Trump has.

Cruz could still do good here by making some decent proposals about New York. It can’t come from the viewpoint of saying how bad New York is, but rather how it can be made better. Borrow that page from Trump’s own book. Then, even if Trump still makes it, that meme will be ringing.

Here is Geert Wilders who leads the second largest party in the Netherlands who supports Israel as much if not more so then any GOP elected official endorsing trump

For me this endorsement matters above all, Wilders lives in such a threat exposing Islam he cannot sleep in the same house two nights in a row because so many are trying to kill him and he is willing to die to fight christian western values from Islam

Pim Fortyun and Theo van Gogh were critics of islam in the Netherlands who were brutally murdered

The guy is a lawyer and supposedly has a photographic memory. The filing rules are not that hard to understand. Filing assets and liabilities is bookkeeping 105.

A PAC fund is not a donor. He has not control over them and as a matter of fact a PAC fund can also be against him.

Try again with documentation of donors this time or quit making unfounded accusations.

I actually think Cruz went a little low on that. Can you believe that? I’ve been saying for a while that Trump does not want to come to blows with Cruz, and therefore I hoped he would initiate a fight. There it is. Win or lose, we’ll know who the true conservatives are after this fight.
