Once again, a Democratic debate is being held on the weekend, and this one could have a slimmer audience than usual -- coming on the same day as two NFL playoff games, not to mention "Downton Abbey."
The Sunday night debate in South Carolina, hosted by NBC News, is the latest in a series of weekend Democratic bouts. The timing has fueled allegations from Hillary Clinton's rivals that party leaders are working behind the scenes to minimize her exposure.
This Sunday's debate is in a particularly rough slot -- forcing NFL fans and period drama lovers to choose between politics and pastimes.
On the same day Clinton, former Maryland Gov. Martin OâMalley and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders discuss health care reform and the Trans-Pacific Partnership, there are two NFL playoff games, with the second -- Pittsburgh Steelers versus the Denver Broncos â likely to finish only just before the debate begins.

Okay, DNC can do whatever they want. They want to hide their crappy candidates, fine. But what will they do when one of them faces Donald Trump in a debate during primetime tv?
Minus the football games, the rest is all fiction.
If only someone would invent a way to watch one show and record another!
Coverup is always the worst. What I mean is Debbie tried to coverup for Hillary. But it made it worse because actually in the debates Hillary has been passable but because of this schedule that Debbie did to protect her, she actually may lose the nomination. Great job Debbie and thank you.
lol. True. That was really funny.
Downton Abbey can be watched the next day “On Demand”. But, I wouldn’t watch the D debate anyway. LOL
Hillary, football? Hillary, football? I’m having such a hard time making up my mind.
Why not just hold it opposite the Superbowl?
Yep, that would solve the conflict. For me will be watching NFL, recording Downton Abbey, skipping DNC debate.
Excellent wit!
The dems don't really want anyone to watch; they want the imbeciles that support them to take the word of the Clinton Propagandists that masquerade as "The Media" to push the broken down bitch.
I’m hoping, that on the last episode, that Downton Abbey gets taken out by a sharknado.
At this home, watching football and Downton Abby...NO DNC GARBAGE HERE!!!
Maybe they should run the debate opposite Jurassic World. But that would be an insult to the dinosaurs.
It’s obvious to me they know they have terrible candidates and don’t want people to tune in for fear of a tsunami landslide!
LOL! You’re only half right. Mrs. rktman usually correct me as being a half wit.
I have no intention of tuning into a show that features two aging flower children.
The overwhelming majority of voters could care less about debates, and will eagerly choose anything else.
Precisely why the dems chose this time slot.
Unfortunately for dems, they can only hide their ineptitude for so long. Eventually, as the general election nears, more and more voters will actually begin to pay attention to what is transpiring in the political world.
But, the quality of the plot lines and acting in Season 5 and 6 have deteriorated so badly I can barely watch it anymore.
The on-screen relationship between Anna and Mr. Bates has become so awkward and so unbelievable I have to turn the sound off.
The series has not “jumped the shark.”
But it has become nothing more than a day-time soap opera with a lavish setting and beautiful costumes.
The creator - Julian Fellowes - is still the sole writer on the show.
He needed to hire a professional writing staff to help him keep the show fresh and interesting years ago.
