Doubting campaign ground effort, Donald Trump’s supporters get out the vote in Iowa
Washington Examiner ^

With a close race here between Donald Trump and Ted Cruz hinging on turnout for the Republican presidential caucuses in just 18 days, Trump supporters are taking matters into their own hands with a grass-roots GOTV effort.

But Mr. Trump's supporters, many of them new to the process and excited by the billionaire businessman's unconventional run, said they don't have to be prodded to attend the caucuses.

Roger Hollingsworth, 22, said he has independently arranged to carpool three van-loads of his Trump-enthusiast friends to a caucus site.

"I don't need an extra push," Shane Bohlmann, 47, a real estate investor in Cedar Rapids said of his motivation to caucus.

This will be Mr. Bohlmann's first time at the caucuses, which require participants to go out on a cold winter night to a caucus site at high school auditorium, public library or community center where they will spend hours representing their candidate.

He vowed to caucus this year for Mr. Trump.

"He's a businessman. He says it like it is," he said. "I agree with him on everything: the wall, immigrants, the war, terrorists."

However, Mr. Bohlmann, Mr. Hollingsworth and other die-hard Trump supporters across Iowa interviewed this week said they've never been contacted by the campaign about how to caucus and where to caucus. That signals a weak Trump organization on the ground in the Hawkeye State.

In view of the crowds Trump has drawn everywhere, I’ve wondered what the capacity of those Iowa caucus venues might be. Apparently, participants have to hang around for a few hours, listen to speeches, and then be counted.

I wonder how it would be handled if so many Trump supporters show up that they overwhelm the caucus venues?

Former President Howard Dean will tell you that the Iowa Caucuses certainly are predictable by advance polling.

Most caucus locations are churches, schools, or libraries, sometimes places like business meeting rooms.

Average caucus size is less than 100. Most venues can accommodate twice their usual number if necessary.

Half of Iowa’s 99 counties have less than 15,000 people total.

It will be very interesting too see how many show up this year, and especially if Trump’s large rally crowds portend how many of his supporters will attend a caucus.

Can you also post Jesus’ poll numbers after spending a week in Jerusalem?

I agree.

If Cruz wins Iowa, it will be a big boost to Cruz and one he could conceivably turn into a winning gambit, though still facing a definite uphill battle.

But if Trump wins Iowa, it is pretty much all over but the shouting.

This is the first time in a long time that an Iowa victory can sew up the nomination... but only if Trump wins it.

Logical fallacy: red herring.

Uh, no. Not a logical fallacy. It simply illustrates that polls can change. Jesus poll numbers were sky high when He first showed up. But a week later, His numbers fell below those of Barabbas. Polls are just that - polls. They do not indicate what the results will be on election day.
