Rubio WAS right. Tariffs don’t punish the other country. It punishes the American consumer by raising prices. How in the hell does that help our economy????

The idea is a threat to create a level trade field.

If the good paying jobs keep leaving this country, where will the money come from for the consumer to spend?

A one way tariff is bad for America at large.

These one way trade deals are siphoning American jobs and companies away, and it’s not as slow a flow as one might imagine.

Yes, the effect is that Chinese goods would cost more, and ultimately therefore sales would decrease on many products, resulting in lower income for China. That is in fact the known effect of tariffs.

However, DJT categorically stating... deal fairly, or we answer tariff for tariff... is a bargaining position. You, and apparently many others, believe it could become reality ... that’s the point. The preference is to renegotiate deals, get the balance in order, and avoid the tariff altogether.

Conversely, no one believed Obama’s red line in the Syrian sand. They called his bluff. He folded. In fact he ran away.

You negotiate from a position of strength, and part of that strength is your counterparts’ belief in your willingness to put on the gloves if it comes to a fight.

The U.S. government was funded by tariffs from its beginning up until 1913. Tariffs worked. Income and corporate taxes - FAIL!
