It's certainly a qualifier, if we could only have a hint that he might fear God.
I like Trump. He is the gigantic gong in God's historical orchestra.
His references to God are painfully parochial. He thinks his Presbyterian church is the big cheese and has some kind of respectful regard for taking communion there, which they do with crackers and he even called them that.
His controversial comment about forgiveness was not that he saw no need, but that he tried not to need it. That might be a reaction against the idea of cheap grace.
We do have a bible hint: to fear the Lord is to “hate all evil.” Does Trump look like he is trying to head down the “hate all evil” road? It sure looks like a good possibility.
Theologians sometimes speak of “prevenient grace.” The grace that God applies to a life destined to believe. Awareness of issues that will come to bear later in a life of faith is one of these graces. Trump might be elect. We can certainly pray for God to cause it to show, if it is true.
