Mr. Trump has no desire to acquaint himself with most issues, let alone master them. He has admitted that he doesn't prepare for debates or study briefing books; he believes such things get in the way of a good performance. No major presidential candidate has ever been quite as disdainful of knowledge, as indifferent to facts, as untroubled by his benightedness.
It is little surprise, then, that many of Mr. Trump's most celebrated pronouncements and promises - to quickly and "humanely" expel 11 million illegal immigrants, to force Mexico to pay for the wall he will build on our southern border, to defeat the Islamic State "very quickly" while as a bonus taking its oil, to bar Muslims from immigrating to the United States - are nativistic pipe dreams and public relations stunts.
Even more disqualifying is Mr. Trump's temperament. He is erratic, inconsistent and unprincipled. He possesses a streak of crudity and cruelty that manifested itself in how he physically mocked a Times journalist with a disability, ridiculed Senator John McCain for being a P.O.W., made a reference to "blood" intended to degrade a female journalist and compared one of his opponents to a child molester.
Mr. Trump's legendary narcissism would be comical were it not dangerous in someone seeking the nation's highest office - as he demonstrated when he showered praise on the brutal, anti-American president of Russia, Vladimir V. Putin, responding to Mr. Putinâs expression of admiration for Mr. Trump.
...
Mr. Trump's virulent combination of ignorance, emotional instability, demagogy, solipsism and vindictiveness would do more than result in a failed presidency; it could very well lead to national catastrophe. The prospect of Donald Trump as commander in chief should send a chill down the spine of every American.

Birthers are morons.
Boy, same dumb things were said of Reagan, “He’ll get us into a nuclear war!”
I have to do a lot more work than you or practically anyone else before God will be able to work on me. The same may apply to Trump, I am in no position to judge that. But Trump has a great deal of respect for Christianity and Judaism and that’s a good start. He does not appear to have humility in the sight of God, but like I said, I’m the last person who should be judging that.
Yeah, you can be a gadfly, but your basic point is absolutely solid.
The culture is rotten with evil. Politics can’t fix that, nor will politics be fixed until the culture is at least somewhat whole.
Well, you see, ya know, Donald Trump is very stupid, ignorant and moronic, while any Progressive candidate is a brilliant, intellectual, really-really smart genius.
See? Ya know?

IMHO
I have felt that Trump was borrowing ideas from Cruz and steamrolling the media ahead of Cruz. But given the right timing, Trump could pass the mantle to Cruz. But the timing would have to be just right and Cruz would have to take up some of Trump's unapologetic political incorrectness.
Trump is better than any communist.
A lot of people love Trump as much as they hate elitists. Words like “solipsism” will really persuade them to reconsider.
No vote equals two votes for the opposition! Which is the worst alternative?
The Trump ego seems to be pretty “grand” at times all right. The sign I think I see of saving grace seems to be that he is caring with a fair degree of accuracy about truth, something that egotism would normally block (the “knowledge of good and evil” promoted in Eden by the serpent was a trap that delivered exactly the opposite of what it promised). Some kind of struggle is taking place.
Here’s the big kicker though. A lot of people think they have to get their own ducks in a row before knocking on God’s door. I have learned that they don’t. God will take your ducks from exactly where they are. The damnation brought by the law are covered by the grace of the Cross (so there is nothing for you to have to neaten up first) and the lessons that ensue upon belief are lessons of love.
And sometimes a situation has to get rotten before it dawns on folks that hey, our pride can’t fix this after all, maybe this God is worth knocking on His door after all, even if we can’t quite get ourselves to be sure He even exists.
And, most dejectedly, they knock.
And God is like... “WELCOME HOME!”
And this is the noise that I am trying to make. A joyful noise hopefully even if it’s a noise.
Fix the hearts and you eventually see a fixed culture too, because people will repurpose it to the glory of the same God that, well, saved them.
The GOP is a dying party. It has lost the popular vote in five out of the last six elections. The rapidly changing demographics of this country fueled by immigration and minority birthrates will make the Dems the permanent majority party. Think CA, which has the demographics today that the US will have in 2050.
Trump is not your conventional politician. He is not a policy wonk. He can't regurgitate legislative initiatives or present detailed plans to solve our problems, plans that politicians trot out and never get implemented.
We need a leader and a winner. Trump fits the bill. Forget the labels and ideology. Trump, according to some polls, attracts 25% of the black vote. If that happens, the Dems are finished. The issue of immigration cuts across party lines as Americans realize that immigrants are taking their jobs and depressing wages. We still bring in 1.1 million legal immigrants a year along with 640,000 guest workers annually despite the fact that we have the lowest labor participation rates in 38 years.
With the exception of Santorum, no one really wanted to talk about immigration, including Cruz. The RNC and GOPe didn't want the issue raised. The perfidy of the GOPe can be seen recently when the Spanish version of Haley's response to Obama contained a pledge of amnesty. And when have we ever seen the GOP response to a SOU contain an attack on the GOP's front runner?
If the GOP loses in 2016, the party is finished along with the country. Trump presents the best opportunity ot win. Cruz will not be able to motivate and attract voters like Trump. And Rubio as the nominee will end the GOP before the General Election.
I understand the sentiment, but that's not me. My ducks are as lined up as they are ever going to get. What I need to do is make the effort to learn about God.
Or if they know what it means, they might not even be so sure that Trump is solipsist. Painfully proud, yes. But he still seems to recognize the concept of a blessing originating from outside his own boundaries, something which, if honestly traced, will turn out to lead from God’s doorstep. His insistence on truth, however badly understood at times, is one such recognition.
It’s as easy as “Hey God, would you start to teach me more about You?” Then listen for what happens. Let it grow.
It might sound even a bit irreverent to put it that way, but check it out, Jesus heard a lot worse. He doesn’t live on stained glass.
So, I see she writes for Conservative Review who has selected Cruz as the best candidate on the issues...
Given that the NY Times is the newspaper of record for liberals and leftists, when they publish an article attacking a Republican candidate that’s a very powerful endorsement of that candidate. The more they like the candidate the less the rest of us should. Put another way, they like RINOS, John McCain, Lindsey Graham, and no doubt want to see John Kasich as the Republican nominee.
Well, even though I'm one of the drooling, low-IQ "Trumpkins" [I prefer Trumpswab], I'll still vote for Cruz.
Not all the Cruz supporters on Free Republic have got The Tee Dee Ess. :)
