Truth is that which is perceived and verified. To some this requires facts, for others simple faith and belief (perhaps scripture set down in the Bible, as a first source). Whereas the emotional content of a demagogue’s speechifying is just fine with many of the great chattering class, who would never stop to examine policy and positions taken. A mob is a terrible thing to waste— so why baffle them with facts.
