A major government announcement could dramatically reduce crashes on our roads.
Equipping the country's cars and trucks with the vehicle-to-vehicle technology, or V2V, will essentially allow vehicles to see each other and warn of a potential danger before a driver know it is there.
The Department of Transportation has now taken a key step towards requiring the technology to be in every car in the U.S., reports CBS News correspondent Kris Van Cleave.

Later that same day, Dave responds...
What could possibly go wrong?
Pontiac, before its demise had a pretty impressive array of steering wheel based controls. Now the fad is making things voice activated.

Wouldn’t it be nice if the government could shut down all private transportation whenever they want?
I’d feel so much safer!
“Picture a couple of cars boxing you in and forcing you to stop. A very convenient method to kidnap/harass/murder people.”
Automatic braking is being added to more new cars and will soon be mandatory. It requires no network to function.
Basically the computer always calculates your braking distance and will slam the brakes if radar detects something massive getting too close.
Would I be at risk of a swerving V2V vehicle while riding my non-V2V bicycle?
Didn’t need the sarc tag! LOL!
Impossible to build a wall but government can mandate V2V. For our own good of course.
This will also be used by bad guys and Police alike in order to force other vehicles to stop.
The only electronic component in my Willys jeep is the aftermarket ignition module.
I have it where it will run on a new Weber 2 barrel finally.
So incredibly sick of this creeping Federal tyranny. And millions more are just as pissed off as me.
The people that work in parts places for the most part know only what the computer tells them.
I get a laugh sometimes when I get asked what I working on. 1965 tends to blow a few minds.
It will actually increase accidents. Aggressive drivers will change lanes at their whim, depending on the other car’s computer to back off to create space. The accordion effect will result in multi-car accidents.
The perfect crime, just waiting to be tapped (or hacked)!
Silly, serf. As if this would be mandated for the vehicles the rich and powerful have available. Don’t you know there will ALWAYS be exceptions?!
I would rather have a totally accurate real time map of where every cop is
You, too? I'm restoring my 1965 Formula 'S' Barracuda -- that I ordered (and received) -- set up for rallying -- in February, 1965...
But will it let me send a message to the hot chick in the car next to me?
“bad guys and police”?
Heck, under Dear Leader’s martial law, the police will be the bad guys.
