If you read the story Cruz’s response was totally appropriate.

When you appear to be criticizing for the sake of criticizing alone you lose credibility.

Ted was trying to be clever and somewhat provocative. Problem is it takes him a paragraph of words to awkwardly say what Trump can put succinctly in a 60 character tweet.
