The danger as I see it:
Cruz gets elected. Then some Liberal group decides to challenge his “natural born” status. They judge shop and find some liberal wacko Federal jurist who agrees. He issues an injunction preventing Cruz from being sworn in while the courts consider the matter.
A Constitutional crisis ensues. Obama remains in office indefinitely as the Federal courts play football with this.
It could be worse.
It could be that a state, or more than one state will rule favorably on a Democratic lawsuit that denies Cruz access to the ballot in the general election.
Thereby electing the democrat by default.
When Obam's term of office ends, it's over. Obama cannot remain in office as President. If there is a problem with Cruz qualifying as President the House of Representatives can appoint someone to act as President until Cruz or someone does qualify. Mostly likely it would be Cruz's VP running mate who would be appointed to act as President until Cruz qualifies.
Actually, in that scenario I believe the VP elect would immediately be sworn in as president.

I fear this too, and I place the blame on the chickenshit RINOs who never challenged Obama’s whole birth issue for basically laying over taking it and not challenging it.
According to the 1940 immigration law Obama is not a natural Born Citizen since his mommy was too young to convey citizenship to little Barry. Kenya doesn’t even play into it. (and I think was a red herring anyways).
But you can imagine the Dems and the backstabbing RINO scum would be more than willing to bring this up should Cruz either get the nomination or should he win.
