Ted Cruz was born to an American mother while his parents were living in Canada, making him a natural born citizen of both Canada and the U.S. He revoked his citizenship in Canada in 2013, stating he had never realized he had been a citizen of Canada.
The same loony logic that made him a birther compels him to doubt Cruz's eligibility, too.
Is Ted Cruz is eligible to be president? Of course he is, no matter what Donald Trump has to say about it. He was born to an American mother who happened to be in Canada at the time, and as a result Cruz was a citizen at birth.
But should we be surprised Trump is raising questions about his rival's eligibility? No, we really shouldn't-and not just because it seems like such a politically expedient thing for The Donald to do now that Cruz is looking as strong as he is in Iowa.
In fact, if there is room for surprise, it's only because Trump has been so mealymouthed all this week as he's talked about it. He's urged Cruz to seek a declaratory judgment to clear things up, and said, in effect, who am I to judge whether Ted Cruz is a natural born citizen?
That's only surprising because Trump spent several years of President Obama's time in office making crystal clear that he believed the nation's sitting president was illegally elected-and had no compunction about saying so, even as the evidence quickly mounted that his view was completely nuts. Why was Trump so sure about Obama? Because he and other birthers mistakenly believed Barack Obama was born in Kenya.

False headline ergo false story.
I’m sick of this non story. Let’s just get Trump elected so we have at least have a fighting a chance to save this country!
The Dallas Morning News defending Cruz? Funny stuff.
Really disgusting that Trump would feed the left using Alinsky approach to try and discredit a great conservative. It will come back to bite him
Note to self....never try to splice sentences.......
So speaketh the trumpeter
Must mean case closed...in their minds at least.
Who pays these “journalists” to write such crap? Jeb Bush?
That's like having two mommies. No, you can only have one.
Not much to worry about. 95% chance or greater Trump gets the nomination.
I agree. Trump never said Cruz could not be eligible to be President. He said that he thought it would be brought up by the opposition at some point, and make it difficult or impossible for Cruz to win, regardless to whether it is true.
And he was right, and they are bringing it up at this moment. (I think Bill Clinton mentioned it yesterday).
False headline. Not not worth reading the rest
Trumpster only has goodness in his heart, he is concerned that it could hurt the GOP.
He is very protective of the GOP. What a good man.
It has NOTHING to do with Cruz numbers in Iowa being above his.
NOTHING!
Mommies, yes. Citizenship, no.
Have you ever considered that Trump (who only brought it up in response to a question) may have done so in order to get it out NOW so it doesn't harm Cruz later SHOULD he win the nomination ?
Or would you prefer that it was kept under wraps until it was down to the wire between Hillary and Cruz, when it could do the most damage ?
This is a softball issue from Trump. At some point in this campaign, Trump and Cruz are going to have to tangle. From what I see so far, it’s been pretty much hand’s off as far as attacks go, no real muckraking.
We need both of them, intact. They both will serve a purpose next year, one way or another.
So quit falling for the dem tactic of divide and conquer. And also remember, if it’s coming out of the mouth of the media, or the internet “concern trolls”, it’s probably someone lying through their teeth.
I agree with you. It could well be a Reaganesque landslide.
So you’d rather wait till Cruz is Trump’s VP pick or even the nominee himself and have the Dems bring up the issue through the media and court of public opinion during the general election campaign?
Nope. Your guy brought this up. Trump is a first class jerk.
