WASHINGTON - It seems like only yesterday that skeptics of Barack Obama's birth in Hawaii rushed to the Supreme Court to try to block the son of an American mother and Kenyan father from taking office as president. The justices turned away those challenges as fast as they arrived at the courthouse door, much as lower courts did.
Seven years later, Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz is dealing with pointed remarks from rival Donald Trump that Cruz's birth in Canada to an American mother and Cuban father raises doubt about his eligibility to be president and could dog his campaign for the White House. Trump had also famously questioned whether Obama was really born in Hawaii....

That is EXACTLY what they now are teaching people in the class to prepare for the Naturalization test. It’s NOT where, it the BOTH PARENTS ARE AMERICAN CITIZENS.

Which is why BO did not qualify Had nothing to do with the BC or where he was born.
Can you get hold of the study material or an actual Naturalization Test?
Simply publishing that material would go far to clear up the confusion.
To: hoosiermama
Re BO...EXACTLY !
I don't know if the person who told me this ( which was ten years ago...so had NOTHING at all to do with Obama nor anyone else ) kept the test and/or the study guide. My guess is that they didn't hand back the tests; just gave the people their grades. But he was delighted to be an American citizen and his wife was expecting so he said that now his son ( yes, they knew the sex of the baby beforehand ) could now be president.

Thanks from this direction as well. Never spoke legalize well - it’s a foreign language to me. And US Civics was many moons ago. Many lies for truth have been sprung by the left and knowing the difference is a quiz game in itself.

Thank you sir. BOTH PARENTS = US Citizens. And if born outside the country additional rules and restrictions would apply as to mother’s age, how long lived in the States and other items which would need to be considered. The sixty’s was so many years ago. Since that time we’ve had what I consider to be a foreigner as oo resident, a president who lied under oath but kept the office to which he was elected, and other discrepancies in what was learned so long ago. Believe I do remember being taught at that time if born on US soil the newborn was automatically a citizen - never thought to question that ‘law’ before now. However seeing how the left does find great joy in rewriting history ALL history will be questioned forthwith.

How long will they keep screaming that lie?
TED CRUZ is by far, the MOST CONSERVATIVE CANDIDATE we've got !
FACT: Cruzs fathers Cuban nationality at the time of Cruzs birth, is irrelevant, according to the law at that time,
just so long as he was a LEGAL Immigrant at the time of Ted Cruz's birth,
AND both of Ted Cruz's parents were legally married to each other.
What are the rules for people born between December 23, 1952 and November 13, 1986?
The 14th Amendment IS a part of the U.S. Constitution and states in SECTION 5. The Congress shall have power to enforce, by appropriate legislation, the provisions of this article.
So, under that power to legislate, Congress legislated and the President signed into law: When ONE parent was a US citizen and the other a foreign national, the US citizen parent must have resided in the US for a total of 10 years prior to the birth of the child, with five of the years after the age of 14.
... While there were initially rules regarding what the child must do to retain citizenship, amendments since 1952 HAVE ELIMINATED THESE REQUIREMENTS.
When Ted Cruz was born, his parents were "IN WEDLOCK".
They married, moved to Calgary, Alberta, and in late 1970 had their first and only child, Rafael Edward Cruz.
Cruz was born on December 22, 1970 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada where his parents, Eleanor Elizabeth Darragh Wilson and Rafael Bienvenido Cruz.
Cruz's mother was born and raised in Wilmington, Delaware, in a family of three quarters Irish and one quarter Italian descent.
Eleanor Darragh, mother of Ted Cruz, was raised in Delaware, graduated from a Catholic High School (1952) in the U.S., as well as Rice University (1956),so clearly she meets the residency requirements.
Source
In 1957, Rafael Bienvenido Cruz (Ted Cruz's father) decided to get out of Cuba by applying to the University of Texas.
Upon being admitted, he adds, he got a four-year student visa at the U.S. Consulate in Havana.
"Since he liked to eat seven days a week, he worked seven days a week, and he paid his way through the University of Texas," Ted Cruz says of his father, "and then ended up getting a job and eventually going on to start a small business and to work towards the American dream."
Only he did that in Canada, where Ted was born.
His father went there after having earlier obtained political asylum in the U.S. when his student visa ran out.
He then got a green card, he says, and married Ted's mother, an American citizen.
The two of them moved to Canada to work in the oil industry.
"I worked in Canada for eight years," Rafael Cruz says. "And while I was in Canada, I became a Canadian citizen."
The elder Cruz says he renounced his Canadian citizenship when he finally became a U.S. citizen in 2005 48 years after leaving Cuba.
Why did he take so long to do it?"I don't know. I guess laziness, or I don't know," he says.
So there is the law for the time Ted Cruz was born,
AND HOW
Ted Cruz's PARENTS fulfilled ALL those requirements of the law that time,
for Ted Cruz to be a "Natural Born Citizen".
Ted Cruz did NOT NEED a Court and a Judge to "Nationalize" him.
Senator Cruz became a U.S. citizen at birth, and he never had to go through a naturalization process after birth to become a U.S. citizen, said spokeswoman Catherine Frazier.
... The U.S. Constitution allows only a natural born American citizen to serve as president.
Most legal scholars who have studied the question agree that includes an American born overseas to an American parent, such as Cruz.

You're welcome.
I get very tired of all of the falsehoods that get posted here and to other sites. I post FACTS and often get not only called vile names, but insulted, impugned, and reviled for doing so.
Since the American government issues the books that those who want to become naturalized citizens must learn/commit to memory, I'll take that over some opinion posted here by others who don't know the facts and/or are lying or quoting others OUTSIDE of government officials' books on the matter.

Yes, at the time of his birth and before it and after it.
I know that this is a confusing subject, that many people pipe in and talk about, claiming that their "opinions" are the correct ones; however, what's on the governments records and papers is what's what and why I said the same thing about Obama.
To: 2ndDivisionVet
I would not bet on that. They may not do it right now, but if Cruz win the nomination, the lawsuits will be filled the next day. One in Federal Court in front of an Obama appointed Judge in the 9th Circus and others in swing states to take him off the ballot.
