By refusing them under existing laws because they’ve violated our existing immigration laws forbidding illegal immigration. Part of immigration screening under existing laws is to screen out those who have violated our law.

At least what Cruz is proposing could be legally justified because he could ban the reentry of anyone that previously violated the immigration law. It probably would not even require an EO, but an administrative rule change to ban anyone with a criminal history (aka immigration law violations).
How do you propose Trump will attempt to ban Muslims from entering the U.S. EO?
Trump’s proposal isn’t legal or within the authority of a president to ban an entire religion. Then again, Trump’s claim that he will force Mexico to pay for the wall is pretty stupid too. I’d love to know how he would enforce that one!
