A new appraisal names the United States as one of the threats to Russia's national security for the first time, a sign of how relations with the west have deteriorated in recent years.
The document, "About the Strategy of National Security of Russian Federation", was signed by President Vladimir Putin on New Year's Eve. It replaces a 2009 version, endorsed by then- President Dmitry Medvedev, the current prime minister, which mentioned neither the United States not NATO.
It says Russia has managed to heighten its role in solving global problems and international conflicts. That heightened role has caused a reaction by the West, it says.
"The strengthening of Russia happens against the background of new threats to the national security, which has complex and interrelated nature," the document says.
Conducting an independent policy, "both international and domestic" has caused "counteraction from the USA and its allies, which are striving to retain their dominance in global affairs."
That in turn is likely to lead to "political, economical, military and informational pressure" on Russia, the document says."

You don ‘t answer my question. To follow your logic regarding Poland and Lithuania, - well, Cuba doesn’t have a contiguous border with the United Stated either. So why should it be such a big deal if Cuba gets nuclear missiles? Doesn’t Cuba have the right?

Wait a minute. Aren’t you guys the ones arguing that the Cold War is over? What gives?

Almost all the candidates running for president pretty much declared they want a war with Russia - punch Putin in the nose, arm states hostile to Russia, etc.

When you have people running for president that specifically state that Russia is America's enemy #1 and talk about getting violent against that nation's leader just to score political points and not seem weak. Don't be surprised if that other side takes their pretend toughness seriously and also reciprocates.
Like Rush has said - words have meaning.

Also another potential president: What I would do, immediately, is begin rebuilding the Sixth Fleet, I would begin rebuilding the missile defense program in Poland, I would conduct regular, aggressive military exercises in the Baltic states," she continued. "I'd probably send a few thousand more troops into Germany. Vladimir Putin would get the message."
All this said on national TV in a debate before Russia declared NATO as their main threat.

So you're whining that US presidential candidates want to arm NATO? Seriously? --------------- How about arming the Syrian so called Free Syrian Army to topple Russia's long time ally Assad? Seriously? And I am not "whining" - that is your stupid characterization. I am pointing out that the hostile rhetoric of calling Russia an enemy/ threat started before Russia declared NATO a threat.
My statement is why are people acting surprised Russia would think NATO is a threat when even most of our presidential candidates attack Russia and Putin more than they do ISIS in their campaign rhetoric.
Let me know when you don't want to play dumb.

If you are not bright enough to understand why that would make the Russians suspicious then your not worth talking to about foreign policy. We can talk football if you want - that seems more your speed.

This is yet another consequence of of the 2008 elections.
Like them or not; this wouldn’t be going on now; had McCain/Palin been elected.

How about arming the Syrian so called Free Syrian Army to topple Russia's long time ally Assad? You've shifted from arming those "hostile to Russia" to "arming those hostile to Assad". LOL!

Well, yeah, Russia has been hostile to civilized countries for nearly a century now. Biggest supporter of terrorist states, right next to Iran.

Same thing - you think the post Assad jihadis will allow Russia to maintain their naval base there? And the biggest supporter of terrorists is Saudi Arabia. Iran only has some local players that are terrorists but the Sunni Gulf states - all American allies - are the funding source for 90% of Islamic terrorism.
What else you got?
