Nearly got killed by a clown like you describe.

He floored it while I was passing him and there was an oncoming vehicle. Bastard wanted me dead

Luckily I was driving a twin turbo and gave him the finger as I passed

I use those urban designations fondly. I married an ABC, my wife calls herself one. Her mom came over on a boat from China just after WWII, her family was wealthy but the communists took everything and she barely got out of China to the U.S.A. with nothing. My wife's dad was a U.S. GI during WWII, having been born here after his dad came here at the turn of the 20th century. After WWII he went to China and married my wife's mom. The Chinese are very loyal to family and traditional values. By the way, her family are all Republicans.

It's extremely tough to immigrate from India and China unless you are very smart and / or have money.

Have you seen how many Indian immigrants are busy staffing the parking lots of car rental agencies like Hertz or driving taxis? These people are not all wealthy - they're just hard-working and they place a very high value on education. And as a result, their children will not be working car-rental parking lots, they'll be middle-management or higher.

We did.

When our children were very young, we set out to emulate some of the behaviors of Asian parents. We are white, middle class folks, no special advantages. But, we home schooled our kids through 8th grade, supervised their schoolwork closely, and set high expectations of achievement. Both our sons got into Harvard.

If the Asians were smart they would start their own schools and soar to success. Their kids would be able to work at higher levels and with higher standards.

Then use the world universities as their playing field after getting great classical educations in their own grammar and high schools.

Parochial school kids did much better than their counterparts in the 50s 60s and 70s

the untouchable class, the lowest, is the darkest-skinned and the Brahmins, the by-nature-uppper-class are the lightest-skinned.

This is pretty much a universal. In just about every society in the world from Norway to Bengal to Lesotho, the ruling class is lighter skinned than the rest of the population. The preference for lighter skin is universal and does not relate to what we call race per se. If a very dark usurper kicks out the light skinned ruler and takes the throne he then marries off his children to the lighter skinned members of the society.
These things are true in all of the mostly Nero populations of the Caribbean and in Angola. Among the educated in every culture mom is apt to ask her son, about his new girlfriend, isn't she a little dark?

...”Why not find out what they are doing and imitate it instead of punishing it?”...

The enemies of excellence do not want to work hard enough to excel in anything. They have found a way to rob those who have what it takes to succeed of earned rewards and to be sure no one shows the slackers up to be very average in intelligence and very big in laziness. In any population of people of all races, at the top of a spectrum, you will have a small number of people who are truly more intelligent than nearly all the rest and you will have a small number of people on the bottom who are just the opposite. The vast majority of us fall into the middle and have to work really hard to make something of ourselves. Some in the average group are charmers and spend their time manipulating themselves into political power positions where they can steal the rewards of those who produce through true intelligence. Here you find most of your politicians and if they are able to garner enough power, you have an educational system like the one described in this article, driven basically by one despicable human trait..ENVY! Most of the really intelligent people I have known have been extremely peaceful souls who love learning and knowledge more than power. The last thing on their minds is envy and manipulation. With governmental tyranny now being the tool and the uninformed, unlearned and unwise voter being the majority norm, we are headed for a rewriting of history and a future of mourning and poverty for the population. After a generation of tyranny, this population will never remember that, once, a great nation of freedom, gave equal opportunity for all and had hearts big enough to be sure the less fortunate had their basic needs met Who among those who see and understand what is going on, can not already be into a grieving process for generations yet unborn? I know I certainly am.

I guess that Ivy League grads Barack Obama, Michele Obama, Al Gore, John Kerry, Bill Clinton, and Hillary Clinton are not soulless sociopaths, then.

Got it. LOL! :)

The entire point of the article was that Ivy League schools like Harvard are limiting the number of Asian students accepted, to favor connected scum like Barack Obama.

So, you're 0 for 2, sitetest.

Now, if you lump together all your anti-Trump posts, which have no redeeming value, and count them as one, then you're 0 for 3... LOL! :)

Wrong. You know little or nothing about admissions to highly selective colleges and universities.

You initially said, “if you want to make it at Ivy League schools, it’s ‘who you know,’ not what you know.”

That comment evinces complete ignorance about Ivy League, especially Harvard, admissions.

Cherry-picking a few graduates as soulless doesn’t say much for the other 1600 graduates per year at Harvard alone.

But you are, like most liberals, confused. While two of the “soulless” individuals you’ve named got in for “who they knew,” the rest were nobodies who got into Ivy League schools because they made it through the highly competitive, meritocracic admissions process, which has gotten more competitive over time.

At Harvard, for undergraduate admissions, for example, “legacies” (the children of Harvard graduates) make up about 11% of each incoming class. Ironically, as a group, and on average, they have higher grades and test scores than students who are admitted who are not legacies. As well, the rejection rate of legacies is 70%. That’s right, seven out of ten kids who have a strong connection to the school are rejected even though, as a group they have higher grades and test scores than non-connected kids. In other words, kids who are admitted have the strongest connections have to know a little MORE than other kids who get in.

The Ivy League is in Division I of the NCAA, and thus has recruited athletes. They represent about 10 - 12% of each class. These also are students who are unconnected. They get in because 1) they have the grades and test scores, and 2) they can play D1 NCAA athletics. Not much room for “who you know” there.

Another 10% are international students, representing most of the countries on earth. Generally, these are ordinary kids who happen to be some of the brightest kids in their respective countries. There are a smattering of “who you know” types, but the overlap with high achieving students is high.

The rest of admitted students get in on merit. Harvard has soft quotas (less than 20% for all minority groups) for most domestic racial minorities, but these are generally the highest grade and test scoring minorities.

The average GPA of Harvard incoming freshmen is ~3.94, and the average three-score SAT is about 2240.

The Clintons and the Obama were not well-connected legacies who got in because of who they knew. They got in because they had the grades, the test scores, and the other extracurricular activities. They were the best and the brightest candidates. We don’t despise them because they were stupid high school or college students. We despise them because they are evil. And sadly, they’re pretty smart, which intensifies their evil.

As for your charge that they limit the number of Asians, that could be, there is evidence of that, but while Asian-Americans comprise a little less than 5% of the US population, about 24% of Harvard admits this year were Asian-Americans. So, it’s not as if Asian-Americans have exactly been crowded out by well-connected legacies with subpar test scores.

So, when it comes to Ivy League admissions, I won’t even give you a score. Your know nothing, and it shows.

sitetest wrote: As for your charge that they [Ivy League schools] limit the number of Asians...

OK, sitetest - I don't write opinion pieces for The New York Post, so I made no "charges".

Betsy McCaughey, an op-ed writer, former lieutenant governor of New York, and Ivy League graduate, made the charge about Harvard.

You're not paying attention. You didn't bother to read the article closely - you just shot from the lip.

So, we can all take your rantings about my post with a block of salt.

So, when it comes to criticizing my snark about Ivy League admissions, I won't even give you a score. You know nothing, and it shows.

Nice post of information from Wikipedia, though!

It is you who stated falsely in post 14 that, “if you want to make it at Ivy League schools it’s ‘who you know’, not what you know.”

Seeing that display of extreme ignorance about highly selective college admissions, I decided to give you a rudimentary lesson on them. It was probably more than you could handle, but I simplified the basic elements as much as possible without doing extreme violence to the facts.

I actually read the entire article. It is one of many articles I’ve read about the topic. The question of Asian-American over achieving is of interest to many folks (including myself), and it is directly related to a lawsuit filed by Asian-American students against Harvard and University of North Carolina for racial discrimination.

You seem to be unfamiliar with the larger issues involved in the topics of holistic admissions and diversity and the suit, itself. You seem to be devoid of any knowledge of the legal arguments on each side that provide the subtext of the topic, and subsequently, of this article.

I am familiar with the broader topic, as well as the related lawsuit suit, as when my older son was applying to Harvard, the lead law firm had websites advertising for Asian-American students who felt that they had been unfairly racially discriminated against.

Though my two sons are not Asian-American, they both did get into Harvard (thus my knowledge of the admission process, as I’ve been through it twice), so I’ve followed the debate surrounding the topic and the progression of the suit over the years (my older son is now a senior - time flies). My children have Asian and Asian-American friends, and we talk about the suit from time to time and we have talked frequently about its merits, pro and con.

Interestingly, the Asian-American students at Harvard to which I’ve talked believe the suit has no merit, and folks like McCaughey are, at best, misguided. I usually argue the other side of the topic and the suit, if, for no other reasin, than the fun of it.

As you snarkily commented in profound ignorance on this thread, I thought I would school you with data that pertains to the actual subject of the thread (which is ultimately about questions of achieving diversity). Although you stupidly think it’s all about “who you know,” I figured you’d also appreciate a little extra information about the topic. You seem to have walked into a thread with no real knowledge of the wider topic and made some ignorant comments that you thought were snappy, but really just showed your ass.

I don't have the time nor the inclination to explain the facts of life to you, child.

In LIFE [the Ivy League universities are a subset of LIFE, btw], it's "who you know", not "what you know".

If you choose to be a starry-eyed innocent, that's your choice. Don't involve the rest of us in it. :)

Indeed, admission to any university can be a part of life. But that has nothing to do with your ignorance about specific topics.

Yep, you advised your sons to "get all up in the admissions peoples' faces about how awesome they were". Or, you told them to be obsequious without causing the admissions people to projectile vomit.

Hmmmmmmm. Let me think which one it was.

I worked at a large university for quite a few years.

You & yours were supplicants. Please don't explain the process to me.

I'll give you a tip about university financial aid people.

Tell your youngest to be the most pleasant, friendliest ray of sunshine he or she can possibly be when dealing with financial aid people. And get his or her paperwork done weeks or months in advance.

98% of the people who go into a university financial aid office are pushy, demanding jerkweeds [MONEY] who didn't do their homework.

If you're the EXACT OPPOSITE, they remember you. And it greases the skids in a most amazing way [it's "who you know", not "what you know"].

They'll do one-handed backflips to help you out, and solve your "problem". Ask me how I know. :)

I advised my sons to study hard, get good grades, and high test scores. And that’s what they did.

That you find it necessary to degrade their achievements is telling. Your liberal slip is showing, so jealous of the hard work of others and their subsequent achievements.

If you actually worked at a real university, did you change your mop water frequently?
