Do you know that when the USS Missouri was built in Brooklyn, the Navy was operating a steel mill near the Brooklyn Navy Yard?

Imagine the permits you would need to do that again!

Two of the Iowas were built in the New York Naval Shipyard in Brooklyn and two were built in the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard in Philadelphia. Don’t think the Navy manufactured the steel. The steel in those ships probably came from
Bethlehem Steel located in Baltimore, MD.

The Brooklyn mill manufactured armor plate using nickel steel. All the armor plate mills are long gone.
