Singapore doesn’t administer caning for Sharia law offenses. It is for more serious and actual crimes like vandalism, which seems entirely appropriate: Vandalize somebody’s car or home, get your backside vandalized.

Singapore doesn't administer caning for Sharia law offenses That's the key point. It is a real mistake for anyone to try to connect Singapore to Sharia. Singapore canes to deter crimes against others. Sharia does it to crush personal freedoms.
