SEATTLE - The general manager at a restaurant at Seattle's University Village is apologizing to a mother after one of its employees told a breastfeeding mother to cover up.
"There shouldn't be a stigma about breastfeeding," mother Lauren Hernandez said.
Hernandez was having lunch at Piatti Sunday afternoon.
She was with her 9-month-old son, Bob, who started getting fussy.
"While I was nursing him, the hostess came up to me and told me to cover up because people had complained," Hernandez said. "And I told her 'I think it's illegal for you to tell me to cover up' and she said 'No, we just had training on it.'"

“If it is a private establishment they have the right to refuse service or ask anyone they want to leave.”
Well, before 1964 anyways.
a co-workers wife came into the office and sat across from me (6-8 feet away) and ‘popped a boob’ to feed their kid. she noticed i was averting my eyes (she was literally in my line of sight as she was sitting behind and to the right of my monitor)
it gave her a tickle to see i was trying to avoid looking while also trying to do my work.
when she said “it’s perfectly natural” to me, i said “yes they are, obviously.”
sorry. get some class. not everyone wants to join you in the trailer park.
Did you ever wonder why public commodes have stalls with doors? After all, defecation is perfectly natural and everybody does it. In fact, why do we even have a separate room for toilets. Why not simply have row of toilets on the far end of the room in restaurants and shopping centers?
Maybe some things shouldn’t be put on public display. I once sat next to a nursing mother on a seven hour flight. She managed to feed her daughter several times without showing me anything I wouldn’t normally see on a city street. There’s nothing wrong with decorum.
it comes in such a cute little container.
In my experience the containers come in a wide range of popular shapes and sizes.
And... put a paper bag over your head...damn!

I was presented with such a scene a while back and resolved it well to my satisfaction. I and the others at our table broke out laughing and pointing. The woman sought privacy

You’re, what?, college aged? Or just acting it?
There’s a good chance had I seen that, it may well have been resolved to my satsfaction as well.
You would have been called out for the complete aholes you acted as.
Wow, and I thought the poster who said he pointed and laughed was an ass.
Are you actually suggesting that there is something comparable between farting and breastfeeding?
The comment is pretty, I just don’t have another word, idiotic.
Honestly she should have found another place to sit. Even if she had not been breastfeeding her child. A baby in the workplace is a distraction. It was rude of her not to make an effort to make sure you were able to continue working. It was inappropriate for her to draw attention to the fact you were not at ease with her nursing nearby.
Finding a quiet corner or area to nurse your baby is not the same thing as having to retreat to a filthy bathroom. She was in the wrong.
Indeed.
