I’ve often said she was a barely functioning alcoholic. Probably binges.
They sober her up enough for a short time in the public like they do drugged out rock stars but back in the bottle right afterward.
One of our FReepers knew her years ago when she lived at the Watergate. He says she was often bombed and puked in the halls of the building. This he witnessed at least once—too bad there were no phone cameras and Instagrams in those days.
I think I could out-drink her in a single sitting but she could drink me under the table over the course of a month.
