It depends on which Kurds. There are the “good” Kurds and the “bad” Kurds.

The “good” Kurds, from the Obama administration’s point of view, are the ones that control the oil in Northern Iraq (like the Barzani clan). They sell the oil directly to Turkey and other countries that the Administration considers friendly (angering the central Iraqi government, which considers all oil in Iraqi territory to belong to Iraq as a whole and wants all oil sales to be processed through the central government). The Turks have had military personnel stationed in this part of Iraq for the stated purpose of “training” these Kurds

The “bad” Kurds are the PKK (which the US and the EU have designated “terrorist”) and the Turkish Kurdish opposition political party, which are in conflict with the Erdogan government.
