The President of the Senate has no power whatsoever apart from voting in the case of a tie. It was not just Lyndon Johnson but the very first vice president serving in that capacity, John Adams, who were rudely apprised of the vacuity of that office.
To squander the talents of Ted Cruz in this position, or in these positions, would be a crime against conservatism. There is no man currently running better qualified to be President of the United States than Ted Cruz. There is no one with a chance to win who is more conservative than Ted Cruz.
I have grave enough concerns that someone may try to martyr Trump while in office, one reason I want to see Cruz there able to step in if that were to occur.
The Senate would be so annoyed if Cruz were it’s President. That would be worth it!
If he was Senate President and after Ryan goes Speaker of the House and after Roberts goes Chief Justice of the Supreme Court—all at the same time—that would be more powerful than just President.
Your words are painfully true. Passing up Cruz for Trump would be like shooting ourselves in the foot. That we could possibly miss this rare opportunity makes me want to cry. LOUDLY. So loudly, that they'd hear me in the next county.
