huffingtonpost.com ^ | December 21, 2015 | Samantha Cowan

Thanks to a label that reads “Product of the USA,” consumers have been able to find out a package of steaks or pork chops in the freezer section at their local grocery store came from America. But soon meat lovers will be hard-pressed to figure out whether the animals on their dinner plates were raised and slaughtered—in the States or halfway around the world.

If need be, I will tell my grocers that I refuse to buy any mystery meats.

The problem with the article is it doesn't tell us WHICH congressman put that provision in the bill. Someone knows.

The quality of a democratic republic will never exceed the quality of the press.

The 2000’s have been the millenia of screwing the public over.

Correct, and I would like to know who, but we do know which Republicans voted for the bill.

With the first outbreak of e.coli or mad cow, we’ll have no means of tracing the disease back to the source.

Wonderful. Once again Congress is for sale to the highest bidder; public be damned.

Our REPUBLICAN Congressmen have sold us down the river, and are not even trying to hide it.

You've got it. And everybody knows it. The GOP is a Dead Man Walking. The country is either going Trump or it's going Socialist.

Damn good point.

Might be worth beating your congressman over the head with.

Why does fruit require a label?

We’ll be getting meats from China, Bangladesh, Mexico and everywhere else. Ours meat products will cost more because our farmers have to comply with USDA and other regulations. This will drive some of our producers out of business.

Who cares? When you don’t care about the cost, because the taxpayer foots the bill, you can get ‘only the finest’ on your plate...

Every time this topic comes us, I’m reminded of the scene from ‘Demolition Man’: “Do you SEE any cows around here?”

This is absolute BS. I want to know if my food was produced in a Mexican slum, China, India, or in an inspected USDA facility in the USA.

Our politicians have sold this nation down the river.

Besides his recent Aye vote for the 1.15 TRILLION DOLLAR 2016 budget cave-in, and vote for Ryano, and his Aye vote for Boehner last January, earlier this year my scumbag (R) Representative, Glenn "G.T" Thompson specifically points out, with pride, on his webpage how he COSPONSORED the repeal of Country of Origin Labels.

You do have a scumbag of a representative.

How can the repeal of the Country of Origin Label be good for America? I cannot think of one good reason.

It's all part of our past Free Trade agreements:

The decision to repeal COOL comes on the heels of a ruling from the World Trade Organization that found the labels discriminate against meat raised and slaughtered in countries other than the U.S. Earlier this month, the WTO allowed Mexico and Canada - America’s top ag partners- to impose more than $1 billion in tariffs on U.S. goods in retaliation if the labels were not removed.
