Cruzâs donors are not âthe donor classâ rich hedge funds etc, they are grassroots donors. You apparently want a complete unknown rather than a solid conservative we know and can trust... Open Secrets--Cruz campaign donors
Hedge-Fund Magnate Robert Mercer Emerges as a Generous Backer of Cruz--Mr. Mercer, a reclusive Long Islander who started at I.B.M. and made his fortune using computer patterns to outsmart the stock market, emerged this week as a key early bankroller of Mr. Cruzâs surprisingly fast campaign start. He is believed to be the main donor behind a network of four âsuper PACsâ supporting Mr. Cruz that reported raising $31 million just a few weeks into his campaign.
Since he began campaigning for the 2012 Senate race in Texas, Cruz raised about $18 million, not including any Mercer money. His single biggest donor has been the Club for Growth, a conservative advocacy group funded by wealthy contributors including industrialists Charles and David Koch, private-equity baron J.W. Childs and tech entrepreneur Peter Thiel. The group has given Cruz $706,000 since 2011, according to the Center for Responsive Politics
The $69,000 from Goldman is one of the largest sums employees from the Wall Street firm have donated to a single candidate during the last few years. The firm has given money to well over 100 candidates since 2012, but only six got more from Goldman than Cruz â and two of them were Mitt Romney and Barack Obama. Heidi Cruz, the candidateâs wife, manages investments for wealthy clients at Goldmanâs Houston office, so personal connections may have helped raise the money. (Heidi Cruz announced sheâll be taking a leave of absence from Goldman during her husbandâs campaign.)
What exactly is this problem with this? It’s just $69,000. The man has literally raised 10s of millions of dollars from small grass root efforts, but a large donation and you think you have a the magic bullet???
I would hope he would have some large donations... But $70 grand out of millions is nothing. He is beholden to no one with this. If anything, I’d say he is fortunate to have a wife employed there which helped influence her employer in supporting her husbands campaign.
