I’m not sure Trump said “kill the family members.” He said “go after,” and mentioned the wives of the 9/11 hijackers, also saying he’d leave it to the reporters’ imagination what he’d do. It sounds like he would apply pressure, perhaps like waterboarding, but he doesn’t say he’d kill them. But CNN didn’t factcheck such a question, and in fact probably knew it was smear question:
