When I learned Calligraphy, it was a Bible Verse, or something from Shakespeare.

And now these students can absently doodle the shahada, be enamored at the beauty of the forms, reproduce it in art class, pass it on to others.

Reminds me of the phases of (ooooh!) lighting black candles and drinking coke with aspirin -ahem- some of us went through.
