I get what you’re saying, but in this case, “a word” simply means writing, not necessarily “The Word”. Muslims are supposed to write allah’s name very precisely in order to not offend the deity, and ISIS’s position is that people shouldn’t be venerating the written word “allah”, but should focus on the actual deity.
I probably should have been more precise in describing the premise.
