Don’t be too hasty.
Rush is brilliant. And no one understands political motivation better than Rush.
I believe what happened is this:
Trump always contrasts himself with others. No matter who he is debating or attacking, he contrasts himself with the opponent and then explains what he thinks and what he’d do differently.
With Cruz, I don’t think Trump can disagree on too many issues. So all he has to contrast himself against Cruz is Cruz’s experience in the Senate. He has to insult that by saying he is too polarizing.
It was a silly tact for Trump to take, because I’d bet that 90% of the people who support him do so because he makes such polarizing statements.
But what else can he say to counterattack Cruz when he thinks he’s been attacked?
He made that play and it was a bad play on Trump’s part. He should not have tried to criticize Cruz for being polarizing when that is what has put Trump at the top.
And he sure as hell should not have stated that what he’ll do differently is “reach across the aisle!!”
That is exactly what we all despise about the GOPE and the RINOs.
Rush brought this up as a friendly reminder to Trump that if he goes down the road of reaching across the aisle, we will view him as just another Christie, Graham, Kasich...all the rest of the RINOs.
Rush was trying to help Trump, IMHO anyway.
Did Trump actually say reach across the aisle? I heard him but didn’t hear that. What Trump was criticizing was Cruz’s relationship with Republicans, not Democrats.
