Rush Limbaugh said today on his radio show that Donald Trumpâs attack on Ted Cruz over the weekend, calling him a âmaniacâ given the way heâs dealt with McConnell and others in the Senate, is not an attack a genuine conservative would make and it has raised a red flag for him: While I would certainly vote for Trump if he were the nominee, Iâve never thought he was a genuine conservative. But I do think heâs tried in some ways to bridge his positions with conservatism and I think he generally leans in that direction.
At the end of the day though, if he becomes president, I expect a lot of compromise with Congress, especially on his more conservative positions â and I know that going into the voting booth. If you expect something different you might be in for a big surprise.
This is also why I support Ted Cruz. I do expect him to compromise with Congress as well, as he has said as much, but I donât believe he will go so far as to compromise his principles.

I don’t think Rush blew it at all. I think he was right on target.
What’s terrifying to me is we’re being overrun by illegal aliens and hordes of sharia supporting Muslims who will refuse to assimilate. I wish Cruz would join Trump in calling for an immediate moratorium on Muslim immigration and for deporting all illegal aliens, ending sanctuary cities and anchor babies.
“So, following your logic, trump intended on attacking Cruz from the liberal point of view?”
Trump attacked Cruz from an “Art of the Deal” point of view. Trump has been working with politicians to get what he wants since the mid-80’s.
Was Cruz effective in his senate floor tantrum? Did anything actually change?
Only 2 years ago Donald Trump had a meeting with a group of illegals. Afterwards, Trump said “ You’ve convinced me”.
True conservative, that Trump!
Yep, nervous laughter in lieu of comments are acceptable.
That is the Meat of the matter, if something is not done about these things, it does not matter who is conservative or what , we will have no Nation left and that is what Our concern is.
I think it was less a call for a truce and more of a chuckle, AND A REFUSAL TO ENGAGE in the kind of attacks coming from trump. Attack Sen. Cruz as a maniac for going after one of the two leaders of the GOPe? ? Is this trump’s John Boehner moment?
please tell me you were being sarcastic....
Cruz should very nicely respond something like this:
I like Donald Trump. I wish every American businessman were as successful as Donald Trump. We agree on many issues, disagree on a few. I am not going to attack him and get in a fight with him or any other republican candidate.
But Donald criticizes me for being unable to make deals. Well, itâs just this kind of deal making that got us in trouble. We donât need deal-makers like McConnell, Boehner, and Ryan; we need someone with a proven record of standing up for the principles and values of the American people and the Constitution.
“Rush has lost it.”
Ha! That’s a ‘keeper’ quote :D
There is a big difference between a consistent conservative and a campaign conservative.
I want someone with a record of standing up to the Washington cartel, not just someone who talks a good game.
He has come out (in some cases long ago) in favor of everything you wished for, with one exception, that being immediate deportation.
Cruz's position on that is more nuanced, as he is in favor of deportation but there needs to be a solidly protected border and closure of visa loopholes before anything else, and he's open to discussing all of it, after these things are done. He is not against deportations..
It is terrifying to me as well. But Jim, unfortunately this is not 1950’s Operation Wetback, America anymore. There is exactly zero chance of deporting all the illegals. I would dearly, truly love it if it would happen, but it will not. The family with the small children being frog-marched across the border will be splattered all over the evening news for weeks and that will be that. The only way forward is to build the wall and then figure out what the hell we’re gonna do with the nightmare that has been wrought.
I’m fairly sure Cruz has supported the termination of sanctuary cities and anchor babies, though.
Well, “maniacal” was extreme but his blunt manner definitely did not fit within the prim & proper demeanor of the senate (no matter how truthful). Trump himself is kind of maniacal. But it’s not enough to concern me in either case. I still love them both. And I love maniacal in defense of Liberty.
So said Bill O’Really? Trump says watch me.
Cruz is the most consistently conservative candidate. What evidence do we have that Trump is conservative, or even “conservative enough”?
Yes but that is the marketplace rather than the government picking and choosing winners and losers.
Hey — stop bringing facts into the discussion!
Trump is the tactical candidate to move the Overton window. Then Cruz is the strategic candidate.
This could play out over 16 years or Cruz just wins straight up in 2016.
â¢Build a wall that works. The unsecured border with Mexico invites illegal immigrants, criminals, and terrorists to tread on American soil. I will complete the wall.
â¢Triple the number of Border Patrol agents. Securing the border is the federal governmentâs obligation. I will dedicate the force necessary to do that.
â¢Increase vital aerial surveillance and other technology along the border. Adding boots on the ground is not enough. Eyes in the sky and other equipment are necessary to find and detain all illegal entrants.
â¢Finish the biometric tracking system at our nationâs ports of entry. It is disgraceful that our federal government cannot keep track of those who enter the country. I will complete a biometric entry-exit tracking system.
RESTORE THE RULE OF LAW
We need a President who will follow the law, hold those who break it accountable, and take seriously the duty to protect Americans. To restore the Rule of Law, a Cruz Administration will:
â¢End President Obamaâs illegal amnesty. President Obama has issued over 20 illegal executive memoranda rewarding illegality. I will rescind each and every one on my first day in office.
â¢Increase deportations and end catch-and-release. Our laws are not being enforced. I will restore our commitment to enforcement, public safety, and the Rule of Law by rededicating DHS to fully enforcing the law, including through deportations and returns.
â¢End sanctuary policies, sign Kateâs Law, and deport criminal immigrants. There are about 340 sanctuary jurisdictions in the United States. They make a mockery of our laws and endanger our citizens. I will end support for these jurisdictions.
â¢Prohibit illegal immigrants from receiving financial benefits and strengthen E-Verify. American taxpayers should not be funding benefits for those who are here illegally, and American jobs should not go to those who are here illegally. I will protect Americansâ wellbeing by stopping the flow of taxpayer dollars and instituting a strong e-verify system.
REFORM LEGAL IMMIGRATION TO PROTECT AMERICANS
In order to strengthen our immigration system, protect national security, and better serve American workers, we must:
â¢Suspend the issuance of all H-1B visas for 180 days to complete a comprehensive investigation and audit of pervasive allegations of abuse of the program. New allegations detail appalling abuses of the H-1B visa program â a program meant to create American jobs and spur economic growth. I will suspend the program for 180 days to investigate abuses.
â¢Halt any increases in legal immigration so long as American unemployment remains unacceptably high. The purpose of legal immigration should be to grow the economy, not to displace American workers. Under no circumstances should legal immigration levels be adjusted upwards so long as work-force participation rates remain below historical averages.
â¢Enforce the public-charge doctrine. Current law requires legal immigrants to certify that they will be economically self-sufficient. A Cruz Administration will ensure they do not receive government assistance, which defies the law and harms American taxpayers.
â¢End birthright citizenship. Birthright citizenship was not intended to legalize the children of people who are breaking the law by entering and staying in the country illegally. I will take steps to pass legislation or a constitutional amendment to end it.
