Cruz supported McConnell and refused to back conservative challengers to McConnell and other RINO incumbents. That did not set well with me.

Things might have been different if Cruz and Paul had made a different choice.

Re: the maniac comment - Trump meant that Cruz went into the Senate as a fire-brand hard line conservative zealot and did not form sufficient friendships, coalitions and alliances and so was not able to get things done.

Newt, on the other hand, had a gift for forming alliances and thus got a lot of conservative legislation accomplished.

And Trump just finished calling a Saudi dignitary "dopey."

:^|

What's up with that? And how is he proceeding in firing all his Muslim employees and closing down businesses with ties to Islamic countries?

And while it’s not like government was hunky dory in the mid 90’s, we’ve nonetheless had another 20 years since then for the establishment to get more comfortable being the establishment and it’s really just a gut feeling since in the mid 90’s I was just transitioning into the end of my teens and start of my 20’s and was voting Democrat, but I believe the rhetoric in Washington has become even more toxic, the determination to vote straight party line has become more hardened, and there’s something else Cruz points out in his book that I think shocked him when he got to Washington. In the past, if a president was going dangerously out of control and crossing constitutional, ethical, or common sense lines, there was at least one or two people from the president’s own party to try to make him aware of that and even speak against him- Barry Goldwater against Richard Nixon for instance. These Democrats don’t do that. I think too, I mentioned this to a coworker. On 9-11 and 9-12 our politicians didn’t play partisan politics and didn’t try to politicize anything. I honestly think today if another 9-11 happened, these butt holes, maybe on both sides, would be out politicizing it in some way.

Now you might be talking about Cruz could have or should have approached his fellow Republicans in a different manner than what he did. Well, it isn’t Cruz’s fault either that he was focused on upholding the promises to the people who hired him and none of the establishment was concerned with that.

I just think Washington is far far worse than it was even 20 years ago.
