SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -
The FBI is aware of reports of [middle eastern] men [from Michigan] visiting Walmart stores in several cities in Missouri and purchasing or trying to purchase large quantities of cellular telephones. An FBI spokeswoman won't say exactly how much its agents are delving into the purchases. Some of the cities where the purchases and attempted purchases are reported by police and media are Macon, Columbia, Jefferson City, Lebanon, Ava, Jackson and Cape Girardeau.

After an earlier version of this story was posted on Thursday afternoon, the Marshfield police chief called to say that a man who gave a Michigan address made a similar purchase of a 19 prepaid cell phones in his city in October. The chief said that man gave a false tax exempt waiver form to the store and bought the phones without sales taxes.

News release from Ava Police Department:
“On 12-05-2015 at approximately 0623 in the morning, the Ava Police Department received a report of a Middle Eastern male subject who had purchased a large amount of cell phones from Wal-Mart and had left a cell phone in the restroom. Officers responded and secured the phone.
“While speaking with Wal-Mart employees the subject who left the phone returned to the store to get it. Officers spoke with the male subject who was of Middle Eastern decent and asked for identification which was provided. After speaking with the subject, officers did not have any legal reason to detain him, so they allowed him to leave.

FWIW, my local Marathon owner, a Chaldean, buys all his products for resale from the local Costco.........

As it wouldn’t take long to be anywhere in the country, from that point of purchase, I wouldn’t necessarily assume they are going to attack in that area.

I didn't see anything on ABC but did see this in Newser and Rush via FOX's Megyn Wherever. Don't know if any other MSM is covering except locally, can find out a lot from the local affiliates that never go national.

They buy burner phones this way...all cash and zero traceable records. Can’t do that with web order and a credit card. I’m surprised they used fake docs to get a sales tax exemption. Why take that big risk to save a few pennies if you’ve got something huge planned?
The same thing is being reported here in Indiana. I Have a friend who said they came in her store. Cops showed up to talk to her a day later.
Unless there is some law that the person can’t buy all those phones, what do you expect a store clerk to do?

Make it a practice to step near the buyer and snap a photo or three. Make sure they see you do it, and watch their reaction. If they are visibly upset, call the cops and explain what you’ve seen. See something, say something!
