It’s not the statement itself, that’s fair game. It’s the denial and dodge that both the campaign and he did subsequent to it.

Get over yourself. It’s a campaign. News to you. Cruz is an honest man. He doesn’t have to feed anyone’s stooooooooopid, irrelevant fire. Get smart.

The only thing I saw was the Cruz campaign deny that they questioned Trump's judgment. From the transcript, I'd have to agree with them. Ted's comment was that the recent events will cause voters to consider both strength and judgment as they vet the candidates, and that would be a challenging question for the candidates. That is hardly a vicious attack on Trump OR Carson. About the only "smug" statement was relating to the fact that the media can't get him to attack the other candidates, but he smothers the other candidates in love instead - but the smugness was directed at the media, not at the candidates.
