Trump doesn’t understand Political Governance nor the Constitution IMO. ...let alone politics...he’s got a long way to go.....but he seems to understand “power” and that which being Presdent would afford him.
Neither do you, really. Looking at the actual quote, it doesn't appear Trump is talking about making the death penalty mandatory. Only that one of the first things he would do is send a world wide statement that cop killing should be dealt with via death penalty.
It's the usual anti-Trump folks making the leap-- because they didn't bother to read the article and just went by the headline-- that by "statement" Trump means "mandatory law."
