Interesting, thanks. I actually was thinking more in the context of no-go places within a country ie France, America etc. and if having their pockets of Sharia was acceptable.
I see.
Since people come to this country for a reason, job, home, education, whatever, they come KNOWING what this wonderful country MIGHT be. Nothing REALLY prepares one for living in a foreign country. I lived in Mexico City for two years. I spoke fluent Spanish. I came home after two years because I wasn't REALLY prepared for the poverty, pollution and corrupt police and politicians.
I worked there, met my relatives (cousins) and had a good time but...I learned one HUGE lesson: I am an American. Always was; always will be. It was a good lession.
I once read a statistic that for every THREE immigrants who come here ONE goes back home. Understandable.
We lived in Saudi Arabia for five years. We had a one-week orientation (in Houston) about the "do's and don'ts" of living over there. The Saudi embassy USED to be in Houston, with an office in D.C. THAT was how important the petroleum business was.
We stuck to the rules while living in the KSA. There were some STUPIDS (Americans and Canadians) who didn't. They KNEW the consequences. NO ONE ever forced us to stay there. We were ALWAYS free to leave and go home. We were ALL over there for one reason and one reason only: MONEY.
They pay engineers a PILE of money. No other reason to go/stay there. It works.
American oilmen have been over there since 1926, so it's no surprise to us...given that BRAINS are on the working mode.
Islam was NEVER a problem for us in the KSA because we obeyed THEIR rules. By the way, I started attending DAILY MASS (I'm Catholic) over there THANKS go my Saudi boss who told me that I could ALWAYS go to pray anytime I wanted to because God was "number one" and "there was always time for God."
Nothing wrong with pockets of Sharia. MOST foreign children who come here to the USA eventually stop everything "foreign" and want DESPERATELY to be American. Who can blame them?
The PAIN in everyone's butt over there was Sadaam Hussein. But, I discovered that the Arabs (add Persians to that too) had been fighting against each other ever since there were middle easterners.
The only people who were MORE of a pain in the butt were the Indians and Pakistanis. "Pak" means "pure" and "stan" means land: the land of the pure...right.
Besides, media all over the world LIE, LIE, LIE and tell us ONLY what they want us to know.
Sorry for being verbose.
