With this announcement by Josh Earnest, Obama reveals he is frightened at the prospect of a Trump presidency. Perhaps petrified.
This is no small development, but they’re making a big mistake in not realizing where the American people actually stand on this.
They are attempting to paint Trump as nutty, but what could be more nutty than Kerry, Obama, and Hillary (not to mention most Republicans) declaring that this is “not about Islam”? The people are beginning to see right through this.
It is sinking in now, with an assist from Trump, that the problem never has been “radical” Islam, the problem is Islam. Trump’s proposal is the first to break through this definitional logjam, and the people sense it to be correct. The problem for the elites is that we have come to the realization that we cannot read minds. We cannot know which muslim is radical and which is not. There is no solution whereby consequences don’t accrue to all muslims, radical or no, because we have not the ability to distinguish.
The San Bernardino massacre has made this an existential issue, and the people feel un-protected.
If we think about it, there is a humane element to what Trump proposes, because this is headed for a situation in which, feeling unprotected, the people will begin to take matters into their own hands. Another massacre and we may see a backlash that leaves no muslim safe on our soil. That’s where this is headed.
Only if consequences begin to accrue to all muslims, will we have created a climate in which they will be compelled to police themselves.
Trump’s policy is the beginning of a sane, humane policy, where Islam is deemed to be the problem, not just “radical” Islam. This is where we must go if we’re going to keep our country.
Everybody keeps TALKING about a backlash, but nobody ever DOES anything about one.
That is so right, and that is the crux of the entire matter.
