Last week during a visit to The Herald News, U.S. Rep. Joseph Kennedy III spoke about the difficulty of addressing the issue of gun control in Congress. From Herald News reporter Michael Holtzman's report: He remembered his freshman orientation to Congress at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. The mass shooting of innocent children and teaching staff at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, happened that day. Kennedy spoke of the Colorado Springs, Colorado, killing of three people at a Planned Parenthood clinic, including a campus police officer, a week ago and then a much worse massacre days ago. Of his past three years in Congress, remembering the slaughtered innocent victims of gun violence, he said, âDo you know how many times weâve had a moment of silence?â

Why doesn't "common sense" gun control have to bear any relationship with reality that would actually prevent one of these incidents?
