GOP presidential contender Ted Cruz said Tuesday that he disagrees with rival Donald J. Trump's plan to ban Muslims from coming into the United States until the federal government can ensure that those coming into the nation do not pose a threat to the country.
"I do not agree with his proposal," the Texas senator said at a press conference on Capitol Hill. âI do not think it is the right solution.â
Mr. Cruz said that some have encouraged him to criticize Mr. Trump, but said he will not to so. Instead, he said he is pushing solutions aimed at putting a three year moratorium on refugees from Syria and Iraq, and giving governors more power to stop refugees from being resettled in their states.
Mr. Trump has tangled with most of the candidates in the GOP field ..with the exception of Mr. Cruz .. though he warned at a rally in South Carolina that he will respond in kind if Mr. Cruz attacks him.

Prove it with a link. Otherwise you are only hot air, mis-reinterpreting Cruz's actual quoted words with extreme bias to justify your "argument" supporting Trump. You are seriously arguing that he'd be okay with letting in unvetted terrorists from other countries, and that's why Trump is so much better? Really? Truly?
Man o manischevitz. When you have to be devious to defend Trump, it means Trump's a devious candidate.
The quote you have is slightly different from the one I saw. Your quote has “significant...presence” whereas the one I saw said “substantially controlled.” The meaning of those two are radically different.
It would be nice if the media would actually report facts and not interject opinion or alter facts.
You either fear God or you don’t. You can never fear Him enough. I believe if you ask Donald Trump: “Do you fear God?” like most Americans, he’d say something super divine like: “I don’t bring God into that picture...” as if God was some kind of negotiable figment of emotion or guilt complex he’s never required or been distracted by.
Yep
Beware of Trump. Please. He is a creation of the MSM, purely, and has been a left-leaning party-switching moderate for 26 years, demonstrably. That is the fundamental truth.
He's a patriotic showman and an entertainer who believes in his brand image of business genius. His thought processes and speeches seem hot-headed and mercurial, echoing the anger of Americans.
These truths are fixed, I'm afraid. From where I'm sitting, Trump is just more of the same moderate-left GOP progressive with patriotic flair to get people to vote for it. If he gets nominated, conservatives lose. They just won't know it at first.
They both are. All refugees are immigrants of a sort (I guess if they never return home), but not all immigrants are refugees. Also note that Cruz limits to Syria and Iraq.
They will also rethink their squeamishness over relocation camps comparable to ones in the U.S. during WWII for Japanese Americans. It was necessary at the time. Cruz will need the fortitude to stand by his last name, "cross," in defense of America. I like to think his name is a good portent of the right guy for the chore. One thing, he looks a lot better than a patriotic old celebrity-seeking billionaire. Hey, if Trump can talk "politically incorrect," so can I.
I agree with you completely.
How does a Iraq/Syria moratorium solve the problem presented by the San Bernardino shooters?
It would not, does not and will not.
State borders have no neutralization, impact or deterrence on Isis or the Taliban. They use borders to play their games.
Sorry. Constitutionally, immigration policy is the exclusive province of the Congress.
The president is responsible for foreign policy -- as president, not as C-in-C -- which is distinct from immigration policy.
Hell, no we didn't, and we put German Americans in interment camps for the duration and for some after the war.
Below is a reality that has been hidden by the left wing media re German Americans in WWII. Not only Japanese were interned during WWII, Germans were, and Italians were closely monitored in coastal areas.
One of the best kept secrets of WWII was the internment of German American men, women and children, away from the rest of America.
Canada and some Latin America countries did the same and interned some Italians.
Why did these evil countries do this. They were at war with the Axis, Germany, Italy and Japan, and they did not want to have acts of terrorism committed against their citizens by possible terrorists.
Did the media label FDR as a Nazi for the internment of Germans, Japanese and some Italians during WWII?
Who was the president during WWII, and what party controlled congress and the Supreme Court? Did Congress equate FDR to Hitler for interning German and Japanese Americans.
As CnC he holds the responsibility of protecting the nation - including closing the borders, as did GWB on 9/11/2001.
Sorry, but the President can stop immigration to all or just to some.
The only real question we should ask is: Do we need you???
In a country with 93 million unemployed, the answer to that is a resounding NO!
In a country that is threatened with terrorism by the country the ârefugeesâ are escaping from, the answer to that is a resounding NO!
“He’s a legislator. They try to be on both sides of any fence, until it’s clear what the consensus is going to be.
Trump is an executive.”
Top Execs have to make ‘lets go!’ decisions all the time.
Thanks. Dang internet and people who know how to use it can really give politicians a bad time with their own words.
Ted Cruz stated:
“The President should place an immediate moratorium on refugees from countries with a significant al Qaeda or ISIS presence, such as Syria. I’ve introduced legislation to make this happen; it is not a desired step, but a necessary step for the security of the United States.”
The Washington Times claims:
“GOP presidential contender Ted Cruz said Tuesday that he disagrees with rival Donald J. Trump’s plan to ban Muslims from coming into the United States until the federal government can ensure that those coming into the nation do not pose a threat to the country.”
Who’s telling the truth?!?
Notice that he's not criticizing the end Trump has in mind, but he doesn't think that Trump's policy will achieve it or be capable of implementation.
So much of politics involves promising policies that aren't going to work or aren't even going to be put into effect, because of the emotional impact the promises have.
