Jewish groups blasted Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump for his proposal to block all Muslims from entering the United States.
"A plan that singles out Muslims and denies them entry to the U.S. based on their religion is deeply offensive and runs contrary to our nation's deepest values," the Anti-Defamation League said in a statement Monday evening, hours after Trump, a real estate billionaire and reality TV star, issued his call.
"In the Jewish community, we know all too well what can happen when a particular religious group is singled out for stereotyping and scapegoating," Jonathan Greenblatt, ADL's CEO said. "We also know that this country must not give into fear by turning its back on its fundamental values, even at a time of great crisis."
The American Jewish Committee's director of policy, Jason Isaacson, noted the timing of Trump's statement, which called for "a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United Statee," coincident with the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah.
"As Jews who are now observing Hanukkah, a holiday that celebrates a small religious minority's right to live unmolested, we are deeply disturbed by the nativist racism inherent in the candidate's latest remarks," Isaacson said. "You don't need to go back to the Hanukkah story to see the horrific results of religious persecution; religious stereotyping of this sort has been tried often, inevitably with disastrous results."
Trump in his press release alluded to the massacre in San Bernardino, Calif., last week of 14 people by a couple apparently radicalized by the Islamic State terrorist group.
“Without looking at the various polling data, it is obvious to anybody the hatred is beyond comprehension," he said." Where this hatred comes from and why we will have to determine. Until we are able to determine and understand this problem and the dangerous threat it poses, our country cannot be the victims of horrendous attacks by people that believe only in Jihad, and have no sense of reason or respect for human life."
Other Jewish groups condemning the comments included J Street, Bend the Arc, the National Jewish Democratic Council, the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism and JAC, a Jewish political action committee.

I think you are right about not rushing to judgment.
I was a bit shocked when I first heard the idea of vetting Muslim Americans who are returning from abroad. But it actually makes sense. There are reports of some Muslim Americans fighting with ISIS, and others have been living abroad or extensively traveling in countries where they might have been in close contact with ISIS.
ISIS is bragging that they have planted thousands of agents around the world who are planning chemical and biological attacks. Stop and think. Who could better execute such a plan, blending into society and speaking the language, than a radicalized Muslim American who has been recruited for this purpose?
As for halting Muslim immigration, there is solid evidence coming from Europe that Muslim immigrants, particularly Sunni, do not fare well in the West due to incompatible values and attitudes towards women. As Americans we should be free to decide how many people come to our country and to impose any criteria we like without being shamed.
Vast numbers of American Jews are well-known for their self-destructive death wish.

Again, are these LEFTIST groups that are FRONTED as “Jewish”? Or are they JEWISH groups who really really think floodgates should be opened for those of a religion who want to push the Hebrew race into the ocean?

We certainly allow them to hold rallies, even in majority Jewish towns, consistent with the rights enumerated in the first amendment.

These are the Jews Hitler wanted to kill. The rest of us were collateral damage.
We have no problem with Jews, Hindus, Buddhists, shintoists, or American Natives worshipping the great spirit. None of these call for jihad, cutting off heads, to bring about “submission” to their moral, legal, and political, business and family arrangements as well as their religious views.
Any other violent religion, advocating establishing a world religion, is not welcome either.
But we don't want the Irish.
What we learn from this is that like all NGOs the Anti-Defamation League continues long after its useful work is done because such nonprofit organizations are highly lucrative to their well-paid officers and senior employees. It is the curse of Washington DC.
I just spent the evening with a fifth of Irish.
They may want to ask the Jews in Malmo (Sweden) what they think of Islamic immigration before making total asses of themselves here.

Great post. It is hard to understand liberal Jews who would support the immigration of a group of people who would like to see Israel wiped off the face the earth.
