This is a little off topic, but I want to say something about the so-called “Planned Parenthood” shooting in Colorado Springs on 27 November.
Something that’s getting lost in the stories about this shooting is the fact that it didn’t start at Planned Parenthood. It started outside the Chase Bank more than 350 yards away. That’s where the first police officer was injured. The Colorado Springs Gazette reported the following:
“Denise Speller, manager at a nearby haircut salon, said she heard roughly 10-20 gunshots in the span of less than five minutes. She said she saw a police cruiser and two officers outside near Chase Bank, not far from the Planned Parenthood facility. One of the officers appeared to fall to the ground and the other office knelt down to render aid, then tried to get the officer to safety behind the car, she said. Another officer told Speller to seek shelter inside the building.”
In addition, at 4:53 p.m., shortly before Robert Lewis Dear was taken into custody, Awr Hawkins of Breitbart reported, “Colorado Springs police chief Catherine Buckley says Colorado Springs PD has personnel in the Planned Parenthood building affecting rescues. She said officers are also rescuing people from the strip mall to the south of the Planned Parenthood building.”
Hawkins also reported that “Fox News talked on-air to a witness at a nail salon near the Planned Parenthood clinic who ‘first thought [the incident] was a bank robbery.’ Cell phone video captured by the witness appeared to show a Chase Bank branch as the first location where law enforcement moved in. The witness said the suspect ran from the bank to the Planned Parenthood clinic.”
I haven’t been able to find out exactly where the three victims were killed. Was it outside the bank or outside the Planned Parenthood building? Everything I’ve read indicates that none of the killings or injuries occurred inside Planned Parenthood. The only report of the suspect saying anything about Planned Parenthood consisted of five words: “No more baby body parts.” Police reported this was part of a long, garbled rant on other subjects, indicating the suspect had more on his mind than Planned Parenthood.
I think there’s considerable evidence to suggest that Planned Parenthood was simply the building in which the suspect attempted to evade capture, and not necessarily the focus of his attack. The Colorado Springs Police Department is saying very little as they investigate the incident, probably not wanting to report anything that later proves to be inaccurate. If I could find out where the 12 victims were killed/injured, it might clear this up.
