A crack team from the SAS tracked down IS executioner Jihadi John and called in the air strike that killed him in Syria, it can be revealed today.
Until now the top-secret operation to eliminate the masked British extremist â who beheaded UK hostages Alan Henning and David Haines â was thought to have been conducted entirely from the air without any Western troops.
But The Mail on Sunday has learned that the perilous plan depended on a team of eight men from the Special Forces regiment risking their lives to penetrate deep inside the IS stronghold of Raqqa.

Have they confirmed via DNA that Jihad John is really dead?
Even when they do, this info did not need to be released except for bragging rights.
I remember the good ole days when we kept our mouths shut and kept the enemy guessing. Now, it seems like we everyone one needs validation.
Mohammed Emwazi (aka Jihad John, or whatever)
Meet your 72-year-old virgin. (Sorry about the mistranslation. Perhaps your people should have concentrated more on education and less on inbreeding and screwing goats.)
As I understand it, ISIS had no air force and no way of stopping drones from flying over their positions. They’re also readily viewed by satellite. How can they not be destroyed by drones?
Collateral damage.
Can’t ANYBODY shuddup any more?
I remember the good ole days when if we had an important target in a building we just bombed the whole block to the ground with 500 or 2000 lb dumb bombs and didn’t risk the lives of highly skilled and years of trained special forces.
No. soebarkah was the islamist running cover for him.

(the soundtrack was plagiarized in my opinion)
No way to make the collateral damage turn against them?
Shades of Obama/Biden revealing the seal team that killed Bin Laden and put them in peril of reprisals...Oh, wait, the helicopter downing was from the WH’s directive.
We already knew that SAS was topnotch. We don’t need this for verification.
Unless they are lying now and sending the enemy on an internal wild goose chase.
The Daily Mail might be making it up.
Or it might be a planted story to protect the intelligence source.
So...uh....why didn’t they hit the ISIS HQ on the same block?
Gotta love the SAS.
Maybe it was released to give second thoughts to potential recruits.
You got it.
