CMC had no choice. It came first from SECNAV, and then from SECDEF. Do you not understand it was the American citizenry that fawked this up?
The Commandant always has a choice. He has the choice of resigning, rather than comply with orders he knows will get his Marines killed. He chose his career.

It amazes me to see so many good & true war fighters knuckle under to these morally corrupt civilian appointees , appointed by a man who has no business sitting in the office . At what point is country more important than protocol ?
