Fear is an odd thing. A fearful instinct telegraphs an imminent danger to you, allowing you to be alert and protective. Fear in the wake of national tragedy or an act of terrorism is a common response. What we do with such fear in the wake of ISIS attacks and threats will reflect the best or the worst of our humanity, values, and character. For many Americans it also a spiritual question about the soul of what makes us American.
My life took an unexpected turn in 1980. I was hurriedly sent from my home in Cape Town, South Africa to the United States of America to avoid being imprisoned for refusing to be conscripted to a military that was used against its own citizens. Staff of the United States embassy helped to facilitate documents being sent to New York via diplomatic pouches.
I landed at JFK on the morning of December 6, 1980 filled with expectation and fear about being a foreigner in a new country and culture.
I felt like a homeless person without a country or family around me while simultaneously feeling elated to be in the country whose liberty, democracy and commitment to human rights I admired

I must admit I never thought it would be domestic, but for some stupid reason my tax money is being used to bring enemies into the country. So, domestic it is. The sooner the better so there are not the causality rates of the last civil war.
Sad to see war inside the US, I have seen enough elsewhere to know it is never a good thing. But Muslims will not stop till there is war, that has been their pattern and religion for near 1500 years.

Actually, I would point out that Apartheid was enforced by the South African Police. The military was principally employed at that time in fighting Russian backed Cuban manned insurgencies in Southern Africa (Mozambique and Angola).
In short, the guy was a draft dodger who refused to serve in the cause of fighting real live communists.

2nd generation American myself, I can remember the stories told by my g-parents: We came w/ little/no $$, WORKED and spoke ENGLISH.
Yet, I see the affront those of old made every day with bi-lingual signage and govt documentation in every dialect on the planet (no, no waste of $$ THERE /s). Yet, being a neighbor of Canada I don’t see much, if any, French...unlike Spanish.

Most South Africans who came to this country weren’t coming here to set up their own laws, live in their own enclaves separate from the rest of their new countrymen, didn’t subscribe to a religion that was openly hostile to a majority Christian nation, and didn’t have a significant number of people among them who mean to do their new “fellow citizens” harm.
This a-hole should have stayed in South Africa so he could enjoy the benefits of the things that Desmond Tutu was striving for. I sure would like to see how that would have worked out for him.

Look at the jobs reports: about 747,000 new jobs for native born Americans since 2007 and 2,685,000 jobs created for foreigners.
It's one thing to have your government be generous in your name, but quite another when your own government kicks you and your family to the curb and invites foreigners, including those who might kill you, to move into your own house.
