Over at DU yesterday there were multiple threads full of conjecture about whether the shooters were Trump supporters, NRA members, white supremacists, Tea Partiers, or all of the above. Once the suspects were ID'ed the whole party just crashed. When I checked again earlier this morning, there was a bit of half-hearted speculation that this was a ploy by *somebody* to stir up anti-Muslim sentiment, and some glum mumbling that this would help Trump, accompanied by sad-faced emojis.

There is also a thread about how the 2nd needs to be repealed and all guns confiscated, and multiple people saying that anyone who resists will be "dealt with accordingly." There was some concern that rural-dwelling liberals and "Native Americans" would also lose their guns and no longer be able to hunt or protect themselves from predators. Along with some condescending tool saying that the hicks have "mostly gotten used to electricity and plumbing" and would have to get used to not having firearms, there was some helpful little beaver suggesting that they use bows and arrows!

The insanity and crassness that those people achieve in equal measure is simply astounding.

A former FBI agent working as a consultant to CNN said the same thing. Since the attack occurred in a government office building the attackers must be “right-wing anti-government militia types”.
