Try Hornaday critical duty or critical defense. They have a plastic tip in the hollow point that helps it feed, even in steep ramps that concealed carry pistols often have.
I like the Ruger LCR in .38 SP +P. .38 special was good enough for decades. Revolvers seldom have a failure to feed, the ammo is cheap, the weapon is easy to shoot and it is built for use with a laser sight.
Admittedly, you only get five shots... So Glazers or JHPs are what go into it.
