Russia ups retaliatory action after downing of jet by Turkey; looks to ban Turkish agricultural imports amid other 'restrictive measures.'
Russia is preparing a raft of retaliatory economic measures against Turkey after Ankara downed one of its warplanes, Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said Thursday - with Israel among several countries likely to benefit as Moscow looks for alternative trading and tourism partners.
"The government has been ordered to work out a system of response measures to this act of aggression in the economic and humanitarian spheres," Medvedev told a cabinet meeting in televised comments.
He said under Russian law the broad punitive steps could include halting joint economic projects, restricting financial and trade transactions and changing customs duties.
Measures could also target the tourism and transport sectors, labor markets and "humanitarian contacts", Medvedev said.
The measures would then likely be listed in a decree from President Vladimir Putin, Medvedev said.
"In these documents the focus will be on introducing limits or bans on the economic activities of Turkish economic structures working in Russia, a limitation of the supply of products, including food products, and on the work and provision of services by Turkish companies and other restrictive measures," Medvedev said. ...

I'm sure you do. ;-)
But that doesn't change the reality of America's continued decent into immorality under Obama's presidency. Russia by most accounts is turning back to God under Vlad. Ignoring facts or making lite of them serves no other purpose than maybe a source of adolescence giggles while doing so. And in this case, it's disrespecting the power of the Almighty.
Instead of burying your head in the past, you and others should deal with reality. AMERICA is murdering 3,500 babies a day, promoting abortion worldwide, promoting homosexuality worldwide, helping a cult that is Mohammedanism invade other countries and supporting terrorists in the M.E. who are slaughtering thousands; and calling them 'moderates'.
Yeah, it's a crazy mixed up world. But the thing I'm certain of:
Isaiah 5:20 "Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter."
The first step on the road to recover is admitting your lost. Since our moral compass appears broken, maybe it's time to suck in our pride and borrow someone Else's?!
And woe to those who turn their backs to a Judeo-Christian nation while siding with Muslims! - me...
Interesting. Thanks for posting.
Not all of us missed your point. Some people just long for the Cold War days.
“you are complaining that I observed a failure in your logic,,, by suggesting I am an Obama supporter”
You do this literally every day. If someone looks at the facts of a story, and concludes the Russians are correct about something, or at least decides they are not 1930s Bolsheviks, your main “logical” response is simply to start name calling, insults, and suggesting they were bribed. You are also unusually quick to throw out a few homosexual references. A lot of us know very little about that world.
This current round started because someone posted a photo off Putin showing a high level of respect to some Orthdox icon. It is a fair question to see what Obama does. I find
him bowing to moslem monarchs, removing his shows to walk into mosques, etc.
BTW, if anyone wants a laugh at the silly ways we Americans used to view Russians, catch some reruns of The Scarecrow and Mrs. King. I like the show, but some of it is surprising at just how we used to think.
Now, why would you add, "by most accounts" to your comment, Ivan?
Well then, it's such a tragedy. Suck it up, sweetheart.
Based on Russian history, it makes sense.
Stalin was very unhappy with FDR and Churchill. Stalin was insisting that we open a western front much, much earlier than we thought best. Putin has a role to play, but the Western world is not stupid enough to just follow Putin's wishes all the time. And, in the end, ISIS will be defeated. They are the real losers here.
"People who live in the past generally are afraid to compete in the present. I've got my faults, but living in the past is not one of them. There's no future in it."
Maybe because I'm cynical by nature and adhere to Reagan's philosophy of, "trust but verify".
Even so, I place far more trust in someone who says he follows the teachings of Christ than I do in those who's God, under certain circumstances, gives them permission to lie, cheat, steal, maim, rape, invade, torture, and murder.
If that makes me an Ivan, then so be it! Obama.
Then Georgia, that we will set aside . . . but they were here with the same techniques.
In a sense, they found the soft underbelly of FR: Paultards, paleos, peaceniks (all of whom object to the label 'Putinista,' but march to the same drum). They just have to pretend to be conservative here and there (much like the others on the list), but all they do is spew Russian government talking-points like sewage through a 24" pipe.
And the tactic works, why should they change it? They just whine like babies when someone points it out. Logical fallacies mean nothing to them. It's all about the spin.
Oh, ok. I thought you might have been referring to how churches must be licensed by the state in Russia, and how evangelical churches are “discouraged.”
If you see Putin as a thorn in the side of Obama and you hate Obama, then you might naturally feel some support for Putin. But, that is a mistake and particularly a mistake if it means taking the side of a nation at odds with our nation. I think it has been proven to be a mistake to bet against the USA.
And, I would not be surprised if Russia does have some representation here at FR. But, I really think that for the most part, this is really just a failure on the part of some to distinguish between partisan domestic politics and our nation's foreign policy.
Let's face it, it really is hard to admire someone who has done the things that Putin has done.
I appreciate your reply, and for the sake of this argument I will concede the above statement.
But my real question here was about the motives of the "Russian trolls", not their actions.
So the question I'm trying to ask is not WHAT are they saying, but WHY do you think they're saying it. It's that "why" that differentiates a troll from someone who is simply wrong.
I like it.
It will make jooo haters mad.
Yep. Those intent on hating the USSR back into existence forget, if they ever knew, what living with the threat of MAD was like.
Well remember the little There Once was a lady from Niger story
Russia cut off Ukraine’s natural gas.
