Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet DavutoÄlu today revealed that he personally gave the order to down the Russian Su-24 fighter jet that lead to the death of one pilot.
âDespite all the warnings, we had had to destroy the aircraftâ DavutoÄlu told a meeting of his AK party. âThe Turkish Armed Forces carried out orders given by me personallyâ

I understand. No matter what Putin does, a lot of people think that he is a genius. I am ok with that. I am just not one of those people.
Be assured that Bammy and his Turkish friends will do all they can to drag NATO toward the abyss based on Art 5. That's the only thing other than Islamic ideology that gave Turks the spine to shoot down a non enemy AC because it was "approaching (our) airspace"
To Tau; Remember high school, when the punk-ass bully thought he could get away with being a P-A Bully because he had a big brother? NATO has a punk baby brother and so does the Russian Federation.
Putin was bitch slapped and frankly he had it coming.

Constant overflights into US and Western territory.
He can do nothing about it.
Oh good grief. The plane was long gone before anyone could put through a call to the WH, work through the switchboard and find Obama on the golf course, wait for Obama to consult with his aids and military advisors and decide yeah we are behind Turkey when it decides to shoot down Russian bombers.
Oh really! Do tell. "Constant" Russian incursions into US territory. Now I am frightened.
You have a point. I had not thought it through.
Well, time really slows down under stress.
Who is calling Putin a genius. Not me. He is an adept leader of a powerful country with interests. Those are things you put into your calculus of what you can and should do.
Having sad that it is nice to see heads of state actually involved in pressing matters. Actually taking interest.
I was thinking the same thing. Recall the plutonium cocktail served to that guy that Putin wanted dead?
‘Oh really! Do tell. “Constant” Russian incursions into US territory.’
The Russians have been doing this for years. Seriously...you missed this? It’s constantly in the news.
Setting aside all the foreign policy blunders, I wish he could do something about his country's decaying economy. The failures of Kleptocracy remind us again that free market capitalism is the way to make things work best. His people deserve better, but they are probably going to have to wait until they have a more competent leader. I believe that someday that will happen for the Russian people.
No I mean it was pre planned. They were just waiting for Russia to barely cross over again.
Sorry, but an air defense identification zone lies outside our claimed national boundaries.
Well that is credible. Stupid, but credible.
It was certainly not the first airspace violation. In already October 6th Turkey condemned repeated airspace violations by Russia and asked the Russian envoy to explain why they keep doing it.
It’s not just quotes but other characters too that show as question marks. You might have noticed some weeks ago FR had issues with warnings people were getting when posting. Evidently part of the solution was changing the encoding used on the server. It needs to be switched back to UTF-8. I am sure using a third party to have a record of a persons postings paired with their internet address is not an appealing solution to many.
I checked the page. At first glance examination it does not seem to record anything. Even though the key part of the code is very short:
s = s.replace( /‘|’|‚|/g, “’” );
s = s.replace( /“|”|„/g, ‘”’ );
s = s.replace( /ˆ/g, ‘^’ );
s = s.replace( /‹/g, ‘<’ );
s = s.replace( /›/g, ‘>’ );
s = s.replace( /–/g, ‘-’ );
s = s.replace( /—/g, ‘—’ );
s = s.replace( /…/g, ‘...’ );
s = s.replace( /©/g, ‘(c)’ );
s = s.replace( /®/g, ‘(r)’ );
s = s.replace( /™/g, ‘TM’ );
s = s.replace( /¼/g, ‘1/4’ );
s = s.replace( /½/g, ‘1/2’ );
s = s.replace( /¾/g, ‘3/4’ );
s = s.replace(/[˜| ]/g, “ “);
FR should be able to easily incorporate it into their code.
W3C Internationalization CheckerHere is a pic of the line break issue I currently have.
The html tag has no language attributeWhy should I use the language attribute in web pages?
For example, fonts or line spacing may need to change to accommodate different alphabets, style-generated quotation marks may need to be different by language, emphasis may need to be expressed in language dependent ways, etc.Other typographic and layout features that are affected by language include line-breaking, justification, and case conversion, and more are coming as the specifications develop.
Exactly, this would’ve been the mature and proper thing to do. You escort the plane out and fire warning shots if they refuse to comply. Its not like Russia is currently at war with Turkey so there’s no reason to shoot down a plane that is not hostile
