Russia Says Turkey's Attack On Jet Was "Planned Provocation"...
Zero Hedge ^ | 25 Nov 2015 | Tyler

On Tuesday evening, we took a close look at the circumstances surrounding Turkey's decision to shoot down a Russian Su-24 near the Syrian border. The incident was the most meaningful escalation in the conflict to date and marks the first time a Russian or Soviet plane has been downed by NATO since 1953.

The pilots ejected, one of whom was shot in his parachute by FSA-affiliated Alwiya al-Ashar militiamen who subsequently celebrated over the body. About an hour later, the FSA's 1st Coastal Brigade used a US-made TOW to destroy a Russian search and rescue helicopter, killing one Russian marine.

For his part, Vladimir Putin called Erdogan a backstabber and proceeded to accuse Turkey of flying the black flag of ISIS and funding the Islamic State cause by facilitating the sale of illegal crude.

There is no getting around it. It had to be planned. There were only in the air space 17 seconds.

It is good that they say they are not going to war against Turkey. What I think they will do, though, is step up attacks on the rebels. That seems like a very just response. Obama said their support for Assad was the reason for the attack, so....it needs to not pay off.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Turks try to shoot down another jet that the russkies take out the anti-aircraft site. Then all hell could break loose, thanks to the "Amateur Hour on the Potomac" foreign policy of the 0bama regime.

Yes, that sounds like Putin. Or, maybe a Turkish airliner.

There is very little credibility on the part of either American or Russian media.

However, there is very good evidence that Turkey is at least covertly supporting ISIS, and in some respects covertly.

When ISIS declared that the new Caliphate should have its center in Turkey, well, ol’ Erdogan got a woody.

I was stationed in Turkey for a while in the early 1970s. I do not trust the Turks at all.

All of the objective evidence demonstrates

Which "objective evidence" is that?

Statements by the Russian military?

Do a google search on the U.S. being accused of violating air space. Do you want our planes shot down when it happens. The Cold War dreamers make it sound like such an unusual and provocative thing to slightly clip air space. It is neither. The countries squawk and that is it. There was no threat. Turkey is steeped in the Syrian civil war and they just used the air space violation as cover for an offensive move against Russia.

Have you looked at a map? At worst while doing a target run in Syria these guys flew over a 1 mile strip of property that juts down into SYRIA and is claimed by turkey.... At 580 kts they were over that strip of land for 16 seconds

This was not an exciter mission

Lavrov is probably right that this was a Turkish setup, they moved assets into that area the day before and may have had turkish forces on the ground inside SYRIA

NATO. NATO? You mean the military alliance that has its’ headquarters in a capitol city completely shut down by a few bearded dirty bed sheet wearing goat fornicating mooslimes that might have weapons.

That NATO.

At this point I'd rather take my chances with some gang bangers from MS-13....or the Rooskies....

I kid the NATO cause I love....

:-)

Russia has not opened up its airspace. I think it would be stupid to fly over a one mile strip of Russia. I suspect that Putin just misjudged what Turkey would do in the event of incursions. He does tend to make a lot of mistakes.

I remember when he provided a lot of his drunken allies in the Ukraine with missiles capable of shooting down planes. He probably miscalculated. He probably did not think that they would shoot down a commercial airliner.

I have long thought that Putin has competency issues. I think that is why his economy is in the tank and deteriorating while much of the rest of the world is still recovering. I do not trust Putin's judgment.

No, I've never looked at a map in my life.

Thanks for letting me know that consulting an image will tell us what actually happened in the real world on a specific day at a specific time.

At worst while doing a target run in Syria these guys flew over a 1 mile strip of property that juts down into SYRIA and is claimed by turkey....

Presumably you were there and witnessed it.

Of course, if it is territory that Turkey claims, then Turkey is going to consider it Turkish territory.

How would Russia feel about Turkish overflights of, say, its claimed territories like Transnistria?

At 580 kts they were over that strip of land for 16 seconds

So they say.

Lavrov is probably right that this was a Turkish setup, they moved assets into that area the day before and may have had turkish forces on the ground inside SYRIA

And he's "probably right" because of what verifiable evidence, exactly?

What comes after that is anyone's guess.

I'm guessing Obama and the Turkey are looking for any opportunity to suck NATO into this fiasco...

I don’t trust the Turks, either. Nor do I trust the Russians. It’s not either-or, here. Only the mentally deficient believe that there has to be a good guy in every fight. The Russians are at least as much at fault as the Turks. A pox on both their houses...
