The United States believes that the Russian jet shot down by Turkey on Tuesday was hit inside Syrian airspace after a brief incursion into Turkish airspace, a U.S. official told Reuters, speaking on condition of anonymity. The official said that assessment was based on detection of the heat signature of the jet.

I don't see how Putin lets Turkey get away with this. Stay tuned.
>Just ask the Cold War obsessed Freepers.
Yeah, there are a few DUmpMonkies posting hers as anti-Russians. They will be the first to be be-headed by those they love. Morons, all of them.
I read today that the reason for the shootdown had to do with a video. But what difference does it make?
And if Russia decides to bomb Turkey we should NOT help Turkey.
“... a U.S. official told Reuters, speaking on condition of anonymity.”
Every time I see this statement, I throw out anything based on what the official said.
I was looking at that location on google earth. That little point at the bottom appears to be where the jet crossed. Its only about 3 miles wide there.
How long would it take a jet to cross 3 miles at an average cruising speed? 30 seconds?
It sounds like that sort of tiny air space violation is done by pretty much everyone and always results in warnings but NOT shoot downs.
When the terrain is such that a country has a tiny tip hanging down into the neighboring country, it is awfully easy to do. Why do it? I don’t know. Maybe it has to do with the path of the entire flight and its purpose. Maybe it is just drama. Certainly we all know it was not a threat to Turkey. They USED IT to go on the offense against Russia in retaliation for Russia’s support of Assad. Turkey was the aggressor. NATO is not obligated to support or defend this.
That was my point - it’s unclear. The area is disputed, and even NATO is shocked that the Turks didn’t simply escort the plane out. What Turkey did was reckless and uncivilized, but that is how the crypto-Islamic Turkish government rolls.
This wasn't too long ago was it?
Turkey fans BOO during pre-match minute's silence for the victims of Paris attacks and chant 'Allahu Akbar' before Greece friendly

Do not fool yourself. NATO gave the go ahead.
10 warnings is enough.
Most of the warnings were before they entered Turkey. This had to be pre planned because they were only in Turkey 20 to 40 seconds and Turkey was never threatened in any way. Turkey was the aggressor here.
I sure as Hell hope not.
It’s amazing to an old Cold War Marine like me to see a member of NATO should down a Russian aircraft and the reaction of the US, more or less, has been a shrug.
Turkey wants a rebirth of the old Ottoman Empire, and Erdogan probably sees himself taking control after ISIS does some of the early heavy lifting for him. A Russian puppet Syria fulfills the age old dream of unfettered access to the Med.
It’ll be interesting to see how much intestinal fortitude Obama exhibits on behalf of whom. I predict Erdogan is going to be disappointed and Putin has already taken his measure.
Generally if you aren’t at a state of war the escort out is pretty much the recognized standard of behavior globally.
Turkey has admitted the Russian aircraft were over “ Turkish” ( disputed) territory for 17 seconds ... The aircraft was actually over SYRIA by the time Turkey shot it down ( per latest US report)
I don’t think so, but note that Obamalini was in Turkey and had just left. I’m sure he didn’t say shoot down a plane, but he probably encouraged Turkey to take an aggressive course of action against the Russians (because Obama wouldn’t do it himself).
Do a google search and see how many times the U.S. has been accused of violating someone’s air space.
Notice how we get a few inches closer to the truth? Of course this is after Obama lied.
I've read that Erdogan is fluent in Arabic. So is the leader of one other NATO country, IIRC.
You know, for the times they want to talk about things without others understanding.
